Rovers Roll with Rebel Wheelers –
The Rebel Wheelers Wheelchair Sports Teams are among Cork’s best-loved sporting outfits offering opportunity for sporting involvement to so many who might otherwise be simply spectators.
Thirty members of the Bride Rovers GAA Juvenile Club -the Under 10’s, joined Rebel Wheeler & Bride Rovers Club Player, Rian Somers participating at the Roll with Rebel Wheelers which took place in Neptune Basketball Stadium on Saturday last 5th April – on the day everyone played Wheelchair Basketball. Rebel Wheelers promote independence, healthy living, and well-being through participation in sport and while the main aim of the day was to raise much needed funds for the club, also vital was showcasing all the fun, comraderie and competition that is part of accessible sport, while also shedding some light on the challenges faced by people living with a physical disability in Ireland. It was a fantastic occasion enjoyed by one and all. A huge thanks to Bride Rovers Juvenile GAA club who sponsored the Under 10’s Team to attend on the day. It was a brilliant occasion enjoyed by one and all.
27 YEAR GAP BRIDGED
Last Sunday in the Park it was like the ‘good old days’ of Cork and Tipp as the sun shone down on a bumper crowd. It could have been a June or July day but no twas only the first Sunday in April but Cork were sizzling by the Lee! A first National Hurling League Title since 1998 and on the day the Rebels were deserving winners. Well done to all concerned and to our own Brian and Eoin Roche who helped Cork during this successful league campaign. Just as ‘one swallow never made a summer’ Cor wont be overawed or get carried away with this victory. There’s a tough Munster Championship campaign around the corner but Cork can approach these four games with optimism. First up is a trip to Cusack Park in Ennis on Easter Sunday for a clash with the All Ireland champions Clare.
REBEL OG MINOR HURLING.
Bride Rovers 1-21 v Aghabullogue 1-12
WE had a good win in the second round of the Minor A Hurling League.
Páirc Na Bride was the venue on another fine evening where we had nineteen Players togged out against an Aghabullogue side that we hadn’t played before.
We won the toss and played with the easterly breeze up the field. Aghabullogue opened the scoring with a point from play, we scored the next 2 from play, both sides scored a few from frees and had a few wide too. We were the better side in the first half but couldn’t get that goal, the lads moved the ball well through the lines and had a three point lead at the Short whistle.
We staredt the second half much better with our backs winning good possession and delivering great ball into our forwards with our scores coming from 7 different players overall. Both sides score a goal apiece in the second half but our point scoring was far better, running out winners on a score line of Bride Rovers 1-21 to Aghabullogue 1-12.Our next match is Hurling Home v Fermoy Wednesday 9th in Pairc Na Bride at 6.30.
RED FM SHL. Bride Rovers defeat Russel Rovers 3-21 points to 1-15.
Bride Rovers prevailed in the third league game of the competition over Russell Rovers. In the second game of the year in Pairc na Bríde the pitch was in immaculate condition. It was the first evening game of the year for the senior team and the light was fading by the end of the game. Goals at either side of half time helped Bride Rovers pull away from an accurate Russel Rovers team who did not miss a shot from play in the first half of the game. This laid the framework for a strong second half which allowed us pull ahead in the game. The win sees us fourth place in the table, with the next game lined up against Newcestown.
Team:
J. Pratt, O. Roche, J. Peters, K. Cotter, C. Hazelwood, O. Kielty, S. O’Connor, C. O’Sullivan, C. Tobin, A. Walsh, C. Barry, J. Maninx, C. Ryan, D. Dooley, D. Barry. Substitutions: L. Collins for C. Tobin, A. Hayes for C. Barry, E. O’Connor for J. Peters, E. Cashman for D. Dooley.

REBEL OG Under 16 P2 Hurling v Kiltha Og....report by Rian Somers
On a beautiful sunny Monday evening in Castlemartyr we played against Kiltha Og in the P2 hurling league. Despite being without Nathan and Oliver we match our consistency levels that we have shown in our previous 2 games.
Ciaran started at full forward and after some great play by Luke should have goaled after 1 minute but this was a sign of the pressure that would show all over the pitch throughout the game. Michael started in great form scoring 2 points within 5 minutes with Cathal scoring a 65 on 8. Michael scored a great goal in the 9th and a point in the18th sandwiching another 65 from Cathal. Ciaran and Fionn both scored points in the 20th and 27th.
The first half was against a breeze but the work rate in the middle third helped us lead by 1-7 to 0-5.
We started the second half extremely well with Cathal getting to the end of a great puckout from Callum and running 50 metres before striking a great goal. Points started to flow from Finn, Michael, Cathal, Michael agin Ciaran Michael, Cathal before Michael again goaled in the 46th min with an old fashioned doubled strike following great set up play in the corner from Luke. Finn from a free, Cathal, Michael with Finn finishing off the scoring with 2 points.
This was a great team display with Euan, Mark and Bobby giving great displays in the full back line, Donagh doing a great sweeping role when Kiltha brought their wing forward deep with Cody and Sam showing great solidity. Finn and Cathal worked well together with Michael having a great scoring display and leading the attack...finishing with 2-7. Jeff and Tadhg set up attack after attack with winning great breaking ball while Fionn, Ciaran and Luke were a great attacking threat. Fionn Collins, Sean and Cormac played the last 20 minutes and contributed with a good workrate on a good night for the team.
Next up is a football league game v Youghal away (again!!!) on Monday night.
Our D4 team had a decent performance on Wednesday last v Erins Own again a bright sunny night. Missed frees in a great first half performance proved our downfall when some players showed great leadership abilities. Zack had a great save in the first half, saving a rocket while Jack, Danny and Daniel were tenacious. Euan gave a great display of fielding and was dominant at centre back with Alex and Cormac striking great ball. Evan scored a cracker after 30 seconds...and i promised him i'd leave it at that!!!! (it really was a great point against the wind) with Dylan providing support. At half time we were down a couple of points after a good Fionn Collins goal had levelled things up....another goal chance went abegging which would have been scored any other day. Sean, Luke and Jeff led the half forward line with the Fionns and Nathan in the full forward line. Ethan, Dazzler, Tadhg, Cathal M, Sean O'LH all provided support when coming on in the second half.
Next up for this group is a home game v Kilshannig on Saturday next at 5pm. Feile is on the following weekend with no venue as yet. Best of luck to St. Colman’s in the U16 "A" Cork Colleges final where we should have a significant representation. St Colmans v Coachford in Mallow Friday April 11th.
RIVERSTOWN. There was a huge gathering of Gaels in Riverstown last Saturday for the unveiling of the Teddy McCarthy Statue besides the Sarsfields GAA Club Pavilion. Taoiseach Michael Martin TD and ex GAA president Christy Cooney did the honours and former Wexford hurler Larry O Gorman also spoke. It’s a magnificent representation of the great Teddy as he soars in the air. The Riverstown Sportsfield has been renamed as Pairc Tadhg MacCarthaigh -or Teddy Mac Park. Home from England for the special occasion was 88 year old Dave O Mahony-a cousin of the late Teddy McCarthy, who lived at Hightown, Bartlemy and attended Bartlemy National School.
