Happy Christmas to One and All...

It's the end of another year and a time for getting together with friends and family to celebrate Christmas and the New Year. We bid farewell to 2015 and reflect on a year of mixed fortunes for Bride Rovers. Our teams performed well in all grades. After the great opening round extra-time victory over Bishopstown in the Senior Hurling Championship  hopes were high that we might make a long awaited breakthrough at this level. Our aspirations however were dashed by Glen Rovers in a game which we looked to have the winning of for long periods. In the end it was the Glen who finished strongest. It was scant consolation for us in October when the Glen went on to capture the County Title. For the coming year the first round game takes on a new and added significance and importance. A win in the first round guarantees at least three championship games whereas a first round defeat brings the added pressure of possibly being knocked out of the competition after just two games. Anyway we will have plenty time to start plotting and planning and training when January dawns. For the time being everyone is enjoying a well-earned break. Similarly at administrative level we will await the early appointment in the New Year of the various Club Sub Committees for 2016. These will all swing into action in a few weeks too.

This Christmas season is a time to relax and unwind. On behalf of all in Bride Rovers may I take this opportunity to send Christmas greetings to all our players -ye are the lifeblood of the Club and as proud bearers and wearers of the green, white and gold ye are continuing a proud tradition of Gaelic Games in the parish, indeed the Pride of the Bride. To all our members, supporters and sponsors we extend the warmest of greetings for this very special time of the year. We extend greetings also to Bride Rovers people scattered far and wide around the globe.

We are fortunate in Bride Rovers to have such great and loyal supporters who are with us through thick and thin, in defeat and victory and whose financial support is brilliant and much appreciated. To everyone we wish you a very happy, Holy and Peaceful Christmas and a great New Year. To those in our community who have suffered bereavement during 2015 we offer our ongoing support as we offer to those amongst us who are ill at home or in hospital. Bride Rovers is like a big family and we all look out for each other. May each and everyone enjoy this Christmas season to the fullest, thanks for being with us all the way in 2015 and keep it up in 2016.

Fred Sheedy RIP

We were all saddened last week to hear of the death of a great gael Fred Sheedy of Kilworth. A GAA man true and true Fred was an outstanding player with Kilworth and Avondhu. He held many officerships with his native club. Fred will be very well remembered by many a Cork Senior Hurling Selector when we won the All Irelands in  1999, 2004 and 2005. We extend sympathy to Peg and the family and his siblings and also to the Kilworth club who have lost a great clubman.

Cork GAA members Draw

Well done to Mary and Paddy Murphy of Mondaniel who were prize-winners in the December Cork GAA members Draw.

Ladies Football Final DVD

Copies of the DVD of the recent Senior Ladies Co. Final are now available. Contact Liam  Barry.

Volunteers.

We are always seeking new players from four years and upwards and of course older players who may have played with other clubs and are now living in the parish are more than welcome to join the Bride Rovers Club. People who never played the games are encouraged to join too as we have a role for everyone. Maybe your talent is in gardening or landscaping, in IT or fundraising, in catering, cleaning, flag-making or any other of the many tasks that have to be undertaken in a busy GAA Club. Some people are afraid if they 'join up' they will be overburdened but don’t worry on that score. If you want to give an hour a week or an hour a month to the Bride Rovers Club that contribution will be very much appreciated and respected. They say 'many hands make light work' and in the case of a GAA Club it is really the truth. In the next few weeks the playing season on all fronts will be in full swing -why not get involved with your local GAA Club? If you want further information on what you could do ring 087 9538077.

Thanks to the Avondhu

As this will be the season for giving presents and thanks a big 'Thank You' to all in the Avondhu Newspaper for the outstanding coverage which they continue to provide each week for reporting all our activities. We are lucky in this area to such a wonderful publication.
