Youghal in SH Championship...

The big news from the Cork County Convention last Sunday was the Draw for the 2016 Cork Senior Hurling Championship. A new format has been agreed upon for the next 4 years with a review after 2. It means all the first round winners are guaranteed at least 3 games in the Championship whereas losing two games means a championship exit. Twenty five names -Clubs, Divisions and Colleges went into the 'hat' for the first round draw. We  were drawn against fellow East Cork side Youghal. It's a tough draw but then again at this level there is no soft touch. We have never played Youghal in Senior championship though we had two great games against them when we won the Intermediate  Championship. With so many Senior teams from East Cork in the draw there was a good chance of meeting a team from our own Division. Under the new format  the draw for the next round was made also. The winners of our game v Youghal will play the winners of the Avondhu v Ballymartle tie. The losers of our game v Youghal will play the losers of the Bishopstown v Midleton game.

Outgoing Chairman Gerard Lane gave an outstanding address to Convention outlining the era of change ahead. With the revamp of the Championships and the redevelopment of Pairc Ui Chaoimh now underway, exciting times lay ahead for all involved in Cork GAA Circles. Gerard stressed the debt we owe to so many hardworking people who are the lifeblood of the GAA in Cork. The work being undertaken in Clubs across the county in physical development and games promotion is massive, and all being done on a voluntary basis.

Volunteers.

We are always seeking new players from four years and upwards and of course older players who may havplayed with other clubs and are now living in the parish are more than welcome to join the Bride Rovers Club. People who never played the games are encouraged to join too as we have a role for everyone. Maybe your talent is in gardening or landscaping, in IT or fundraising, in catering cleaning, flag-making or any other of the many tasks that have to be undertaken in a busy GAA Club. Some people are afraid if they 'join up' they will be overburdened but don’t worry on that score. If you want to give an hour a week or an hour a month to the Bride Rovers Club that contribution will be very much appreciated and respected. They say 'many hands make light work' and in the case of a GAA Club it is really the truth. In the next few months  the playing/training  season on all fronts will be in full swing -why not get involved with your local GAA Club, Bride Rovers? If you want further information on what you could do ring 087 9538077.
