Junior C Hurlers in Final.
For the second year in a row our Junior C hurling team have qualified for the East Cork Championship Final. Last year we defeated Midleton in the semi final having got a walkover from Killeagh. After a great game in Dungourney in the final we lost out to Russell Rovers by a goal. Having defeated Youghal a few weeks back the team were back in action in Watergrasshill on Sunday morning last against Sarsfields. This was Sars fourth XV but such is the strength in dept of the Riverstown based club all their teams are very competitive. Just as he did against the seasiders Donal Ryan got an early goal for us on Sunday last. We had the aid of a very strong breeze in the first half and after the first green flag we hit over points from Terry Broderick (2), Richie Cahill and Gavin O Flynn. Sars got a point and then a goal from a retaken penalty and after all our possession we were only three points up. Our defence was capably marshalled by Pa O Driscoll and Pat Walsh at centre back. With Gavin O Flynn and Stephen Boyce well on top at midfield we were well in control of the game but scores from play were slow coming. Walshie got what looked like a severe head injury and was replaced by Podge O Brien. Two points from frees by Gavin Quill after good work from Sean Cotter and Owen Murphy extended our lead. Having received treatment on the line Walshie came back on - what is he made of at all? He proceeded to have a stormer of a game at centre back, urging on everyone else, what a player! Gavin Quills accuracy from frees helped us to a seven point half time lead of 1 9 to 1 2. Though we seemed to be well on top the breeze from Skehanagh was very strong. Richie Cahill extended our lead with a point before Sars had a similar score. A cracking goal from Gavin Quill put daylight between the sides as we led by 2 10 to 1 3. Sars weren’t finished and a goal and a point narrowed the gap to just five points. Points from Gavin O Flynn, Richie and another free from Gavin Quill extended our lead again. With Noonan, Connor, Lahive and Buckley to the fore our defence kept Sars out time and time again. Then as so often before Donal Ryan struck for another goal to leave us winners by 3 12 to 2 6.
This was a good win but much tougher opposition awaits us in the East Cork Final. The second teams of Castlemartyr and Cobh are due to meet in the second semi final on next Saturday .

Well Done to U 15's.
Well done to our under 15 hurlers who have reached the County Premier 2 Championship Final. On Thursday last they defeated Slieverue under lights at the Mardyke in the quarter final. On Sunday afternoon at Ballyhooley they had a thrilling 2 15 to 2 11 win over Fermoy in the County semi final. Like father- like son, they say and it was great to see Donal Ryan scoring two goals in the junior match in the Hill and a few hours later his son Conleith hit over six great points in the u 15 game! Best of luck to the u15's in the county Final against St. Finbarrs in Delaneys ground on this coming Saturday at 2 0 clock. Our young hurlers have reached the u 14, u15 and u 16 County Finals this year, well done to all involved.
