Senior Ladies Football:...
Bride Rovers will take on Eire Óg in the final of the Senior B Football Championship on Sunday 4th October. Time & Venue to be confirmed. The ladies previously defeated Eire Og in the round robin series of games back in June on a scoreline of 3-18 to 3-13. That was a great game played on a beautiful sunny day, and the re-match on Sunday week will again be a close encounter. Eire Og defeated Boherbue in the semi-final after extra time on a scoreline of 5-19 to 5-15 and in Eimear Scally they have one of the best young forwards in the game.
The Rovers have being scoring well too, 3-18 v Eire Og, 4-11 v Donoughmore and 2-19 v Clonakilty. It is sure to be a cracking contest and we look forward to your support on the day.
All Ireland Sunday:
The club would like to extend best wishes to Grace, Jennifer, Eleanor and the Cork Ladies Football Team and Management on Sunday in the All-Ireland Final v Dublin. A large number of local supporters will be there to cheer on the Bride Rovers’ ladies and their team-mates.
U14 Football:
Bride Rovers 5-9 Fermoy 7-7
Bride Rovers travelled to Fermoy on Friday evening for the under 14 semi-final. Previous encounters between the teams have always been very closely contested and this promised to be a very competitive game. Bride Rovers were missing three key players through injury but the team lined out wholly motivated and determined. In the early stages of the first half it was practically score for score but Bride Rovers pulled away to lead at half time on a score of 4-7 to 2-4. The tremendous effort and work rate of the first half took its toll on the girls and it was an uphill battle for them to maintain their fine first-half performance. Fermoy gradually chipped away at the lead with three goals and three points to our one goal and two points. With ten minutes to go, we lost Lucy and Talitha to injury. Unfortunately, that seemed to seal our fate and two more goals from Fermoy gave them the win with a four-point margin. No fault to Bride Rovers; the entire panel put on a very spirited performance at every position but it just wasn’t to be our day.
Team: Sarah Murphy, Ciara O’Flynn, Rachel O’Flynn, Rebecca Walsh, Aoife Cowman, Fiona Barry (1-0), Sophie Dorgan, Talitha O’Neill, Shauna Hayes, Lucy Hicks, Katie Quirke (0-6), Caoimhe Hazelwood (0-1), Anna Murray (1-1), Abby Keating, Ella Quinlan (3-1), Amy Kennedy, Grace Dorgan.
U10 Football:
The under 10s lined out on Monday evening to play Midleton in the league semi final at home. Midleton got off to a great start with a couple of early goals through no fault of our keeper, Mai, who made some fantastic saves under pressure. Bride Rovers took a while to settle into the game and the visitors took full advantage and led at half time 5-1 to 2-0. The girls came out much stronger and more focused in the second half and scores from Ruby and Mollie brought the teams level with ten minutes to go. Unfortunately, Midleton kicked up a gear again and drove home some great goals to win the match. Hard luck to Bride Rovers who did their best and it was heartening to see a huge panel of twenty two tog out for the game.
Team: Mai Cosgrove, Aoife McCarthy, Abbie O’Connell, Ava Kiely, Ava Barry, Ruby Broderick (1-0), Mollie O’Connell (2-1), Sarah Bermingham, Lily Murray (2-0), Sophie Lee, Abbie Hoare, Eimear Harte, Aisling Harte, Sarah Buckley, Francesca Meaney, Roisin Crowley, Rachel Walsh, Nikita Parle, Oonagh Nagle, Emma Collins, Ella Barry, Allanah O’Sullivan
U8 Football:
The under 8 girls attended their first blitz of the season at Passage West on Saturday the 12th of September. Thankfully, the weather was very kind to them, particularly as they paraded proudly as part of the pre-blitz celebrations adorned with the Bride Rovers flags and banners. Ninety one other teams also participated. Seventeen girls kitted out for the event and, for the majority of them, it was their first football blitz representing their club. The panel was strongly supported by parents and family who also made a day of it by bringing along picnics. Bride Rovers had three matches against St. Anne’s, Fermoy Lions and St Ailbes, and they ably demonstrated all their skills on the pitch with some fine displays of football.
Many thanks to everyone who took part, and to the coaches and those who helped out on the day: Pat Culloty, Maria Barry, Niall Harte, Anne Marie O'Donovan and Conor McElvaney.
The under 8s also played against Lisgoold last Saturday morning. There was a great turnout and the team played extremely well using their skills in defence and scoring some nice goals and points. Many thanks for the great support on the day.
U16 Camogie:
Bride Rovers 5-10 Tracton 3-7
On Wednesday evening, Bride Rovers lined out at home to Tracton in an under 16 championship match. Two early goals from Siobhan and Sarah gave the home side a good start. The team settled well and maintained a strong lead throughout the first half with tight marking in defence, good fielding all over the pitch, and accurate passing going forward. Bride Rovers led at half time on a score of 4-6 to 1-2. In the second half, Bride Rovers were showing signs of tiring and Tracton capitalised on this to notch up a tally of 2-5 to 4 points. With just minutes to go there were only two goals between the teams and Tracton continued to pile on the pressure. However, Siobhan scored a last minute goal and Bride Rovers were the deserved winners after a very good all round and solid team performance. Well done girls.
Team: Rachel O’Flynn, Sarah Geaney, Emily Larkin, Emma Barry, Aisling Finnegan, Emma Hazelwood, Fiona Barry, Grace Culloty (0-3), Aislinn O’Connor (0-1), Katie Quirke, Caoimhe Hazelwood (1-1), Anna Murray, Siobhan O’Sullivan (3-3), Sarah Murphy (1-2)
U12 Camogie:
On Saturday morning, Bride Rovers hosted a camogie blitz for the under 12s. Many thanks to Mitchelstown, St Catherines and Carrigtwohill who travelled to participate in the event. Although the girls struggled in their first game against Carrigtwohill, they got stronger as the games progressed and gave their usual courageous and spirited performance with close marking and battling for every ball. This was a very enjoyable day for the girls; they are a team who are improving with every outing and they have certainly come a long way from their first foray into camogie just a few short months ago when they started out with just nine players. A huge thank you to the parents who worked tirelessly in the club room providing tea, coffee and refreshments to the players and their supporters.
