U12 Football:

On Sunday afternoon, the under 12s played away to Cloyne in the semi final of the East Cork Championship. Cloyne played with a strong wind in the first half and got off to a great start with an early goal. Bride Rovers took a little while to settle into the game and, in the meantime, Cloyne notched up some well-taken points. A point each from Ciara and Shauna kept Bride Rovers in sight of the game and the score at half time stood at 1-7 to 0-2. Bride Rovers put in a much stronger performance in the second half and the defence was very solid keeping Cloyne’s second-half tally to just 3 points. The forwards plied plenty of pressure on the Cloyne defence, Shauna scored two more points and a goal, and Rovers were in hard luck for a couple of more scores hitting the cross bar twice and kicking a few unlucky wides. Although Bride Rovers lost on a final score of 1-10 to 1-04, it was a very good display from a team who worked hard and never gave up trying. Well done girls.

All Ireland Football Blitz:

Last Saturday, the under 10 and under 8 girls headed down to Passage West for a massive football blitz with over 90 teams from all over the country. There was an array of colour to greet us when we arrived with so many teams getting ready for the parade. With Bride Rovers banners, flags and jerseys we joined in and the girls chanted Bride Rovers songs along the parade which was lead by Carrigaline Pipe Band. We were lucky to meet and take photos with Katie Quirke and Sarah Murphy from the  under 14 Cork team.

The under 10s first match was against Rockban; this was a tough match but the girls were well able and drew the game. Our next match was against Clonakilty Lions. The girls were settling in now and were finding their rhythm. Playing lovely football with some great passing and soloing they won their second match. Our final match was against Courcey Rovers. The girls pulled out all the stops and, from goalkeeper, defence, mid field and forwards, all angles were covered and the girls won this game too.

Well done to all the girls who took part, and a fun day was had by all. We would like to thank all the parents for their help and support and especially Passage West Ladies Football Club for a fantastic, well organized event.
