Junior C's Reach Semi Final..
Our Junior C Junior Hurling team were in championship action in Pairc Naomh Caitrionaigh, Ballynoe on Saturday evening last. The Dublin v Mayo replay on the telly and Imokilly and Sarsfields in the Co SHC in Cobh combined to yield less than capacity crowd at the spacious St. Catherines Club Headquarters. The last championship encounter between Youghal and the Rovers played at this venue was in the glorious summer of 2003. We played a drawn game against the seasiders in the quarter final of the Intermediate championship before winning the replay. That was a dozen years ago but on Saturday night last eight players from those epic duels lined out once more in Ballynoe. Youghal had three and we had Terry, Walshie, Ryano, Richie and Pat Cotter. Youghal were first on the scoreboard with two points, from a free and 65. Then in the twinkling of an eye Donal Ryan had a smashing goal to put us ahead. A second goal came quickly, points from Gavin, Richie and Gavin Quill (frees) helped us to a 2 5 to 0 7 half time lead - five of the Youghal points came from placed balls. A four point lead was a poor enough reflection of our superiority in terms of possession. Walshie had controlled the centre very well and his distribution was akin to what we saw in Croke Park the following day. The silken skills of Terry who Captained us to County Minor League glory in 1992 were complimented by great hurling from Boycie and Richie Cahill. Youghal started the second half with a point which left us just a goal ahead. In fairness to the lads they didn't panic like Galway. Pa was outstanding at full back with jack and Podge doing great defensive work in front of Daniel Lane. Brian Lahive and Sean Cotter worked tigerishly as wing backs. Owen Murphy was back from a sojourn out of the country and showed all his old skills. It took us ten minutes into the second half before we got to grips with the Youghal onslaught. Our third goal- like a Joe Deane or DJ Carey special put us on our way and we finished with some nice points to win in the end on a scoreline of
3-12 to 0-11.
Team panel & scorers; Daniel Lane, Podge Noonan, Pa O'Driscoll, Jack Connors, Brian Lahive, Pat Walsh, Sean Cotter, Stephen Boyce(0-1), Gavin O'Flynn (0-2), Richie Cahill (0-3), Terry Broderick (1-1), Gavin Quill (0-3), Pat Cotter, Donal Ryan (2-1), Owen Murphy (0-1), Jessie O'Keeffe, Colm Howard, Mossie Dooley, Dylan Browne, Jamie Barry.
This was a good victory but certainly we will have to up the intensity a few degrees if we are to have any chance of reaching the final for the second year in a row.
ALL IRELAND 7's.
On Saturday last we participated in the Annual Kilmacud Crokes & a side Hurling competition. This long established event is part and parcel of the All Ireland weekend and is promoted by the Kilmacud Crokes Club.
We were grouped in a very tough section, ourselves Borrisleigh from Tipperary -five time winners of the competition, Castlegar from Galway and another Tipp Club Burgess. We were certainly thrown in at the deep end with a n opening game against the Noel McGrath led Borrisleigh. It was good contest but the Tipp sides experience at this game told in the end and they won on a scoreline of Borrisleigh 6-8
Bride Rovers 3-3. Our second game was against Castlegar the club of the famous Connolly brothers. It was humdinger which ended in a high-scoring draw- Castlegar 5-6
Bride rovers 5-6.
Our final game against Burgess was another close affair which could have gone either way but the Tipp side held on for a narrow win by three points, Burgess 4 8 to Bride Rovers 4-5. Our games were played at the Bray Emmets ground.Borrisleigh won our group and went on to win out the Final of the Competition - winners for the sixth time.

Under 14 Final.
Hard luck to our under 14 hurlers who lost to Inniscarra in the Rebel Og East Championship Final in Ballygarvan last Saturday evening. They are not out of the competition though because as runners up they will take on Ballygiblin this weekend -probably on Saturday. Our u 15's are also down to play combination side Sliabhrua in the championship. Best of luck to both teams.
All Ireland Final.
Once more Kilkenny claimed the Mc Carthy Cup on Sunday in Croke park. Down by three points at the break the men in black and amber moved up the gears in the second half in typical fashion to win by four points. What a team and what a manager Brian Cody is-no doubt head and shoulders over anyone else, the best ever GAA team manager.
