U11 Camogie:
On Saturday, the under 11s played away to Cobh. It was a very closely fought contest, particularly in the first half with the score standing at nil all. Cobh, however, were stronger in the second half and scored three fine goals despite the best efforts of our goal-keeper and defence who played remarkably well. Kate and Abbie scored two excellent points and Bride Rovers were in hard luck not to notch up a couple of more scores. Well done to the team who are improving with every game.
Team: Cliona Edmonds, Emma Collins, Naoise McCarthy, Ava Barry, Lily Murray, Abbie Hoare (0-1), Kate Larkin (0-1), Michelle Geaney, Aoife McCarthy, Mollie O’Connell, Ruby Broderick, Nikita Parle.
U15 Camogie:
Bride Rovers U15 girls displayed a magnificent performance against St. Catherine’s on Monday evening. Both Emma Barry and Sarah Murphy hit the sliothar over the bar before Ella Quinlan scored a goal. Just before half time Caoimhe Hazelwood scored a point, so Bride Rovers went into break time on 1-3. At the start of the second half, St. Catherines put the sliothar over the bar two times before Arianne O’Flynn scored a mind blowing goal (2-3 to 0-7). However St. Catherines didn’t sit still and put another two over the bar (0-9). After this Bride Rovers played even better and the back line with Emily Larkin, Claire Hickey, Sarah Geaney and goalie Rachel O’Flynn kept St. Catherines from scoring any goals or points. Aislinn O’Connor scored a goal from far which ended beautifully in the top corner of the net (3-3). Arianne O’Flynn responded with another goal (4-3). Just when substitution Shauna Hayes came on she scored a nice point (4-4) and Aislinn O’Connor put another one over the bar with final scored ending 0-9 for St. Catherines and a amazing 4-5 for Bride Rovers.
Team: Emma Barry, Aislinn O’Connor, Rachel O’Flynn, Arianne O’Flynn, Shauna Hayes, Sarah Geaney, Sarah Murphy, Claire Hickey, Emily Larkin, Caoimhe Hazelwood, Fiona Barry, Ella Quinlan, Katie Quirke, Caoimhe O’Sullivan.
Junior Camogie:
Our Junior camogie season came to an end on Sunday afternoon when we were defeated by Watergrasshill 3-6 to 1-2 at Castle Road.
Our thanks to our very small panel of girls who played throughout the year for their sportsmanship and commitment to Bride Rovers camogie. We wish Catherine Power a speedy recovery following her injury and best wishes to Yris for her up coming wedding.
U16 Football:
On Sunday, Bride Rovers played at home to Aghada in the East Cork League Final. The home side were under pressure from the start playing into the sun, against the wind and up against a team who were extremely strong on the night. Aghada scored two early goals and a plethora of well-worked points and Bride Rovers had to work very hard for their scores. In fairness, Sarah pulled off some courageous saves in goal and the defence never gave up but unfortunately the girls were unable to narrow the gap and they were chasing the game from the get-go. Aghada were the deserved winners at the final whistle. Well done to both teams on a spirited performance.
Team: Sarah Murphy, Fiona Barry, Emily Larkin, Caoimhe O’Sullivan, Claire Hickey (0-1), Aisling Finnegan, Talitha O’Neill, Grace Culloty (1-4), Aislinn O’Connor, Rebecca Walsh, Andrea Quinn O’Donovan, Emma Barry, Anna Murray, Ella Quinlan, Katie Quirke (0-6), Michelle Madden.
