Under 21 Hurlers in Semi Final..

Our u 21 hurling team reached the semi final of the championship on last Saturday evening in Lisgoold with a good win over Russell Rovers. On a beautiful evening for hurling we got a very tough challenge from Russell Rovers.  We were behind for most of the first half and it was well in to the second half that we came to grips with the Russell Rovers challenge. From the start the Shanagarry side got quickly into their stride. They displayed great first time hurling and great running off the ball . They took the lead after three minutes with a point and we found it hard to get up to the pace of the game. We were behind by 1 3 to  0 3 after ten minutes. When we got a goal we briefly led but back came the other Rover to score two points. A couple of good points from frees saw us on parity at 1  10 apiece at half time. On the restart we took the lead but only momentarily as Russell Rovers hit two great scores. A goal from DJ Cahill was a huge boost and in the final quarter we powered ahead to win on a final scoreline of; Russell Rovers: 1-12Bride Rovers: 2-18. A win is a win but we will need a huge improvement if we are to have any chance of progressing to the final of this competition.

The Format for the Cork County Championships is up for review at present. Should we have a County Senior Hurling Championship with 4 groups of 4 teams, each team plays three games, top two ion each group go through and the third placed teams play off. A system like that exists now in many Counties. All Senior Clubs will meet the County Executive on next Monday night August 24th on the matter.
