RED FM senior Hurling League.
On Tuesday July 7th our Senior Hurlers travelled to Riverstown to take on Sarsfields, the county Champions in a League Tie. Both teams had tight numbers, due to the upcoming Minor Championship none of the minor players were involved in the game. It was an open game of hurling played on a perfect sod. Goals from Sean Ryan and Ml Collins kept us in contention but Sars were victorious in the end on a scoreline of 3 19 to 2 16.

East Cork(Imokilly) JHL Division 2
We conceded venue and travelled to Castlelyons on Tuesday of last week to play the League Fixture against the home side. We travelled with a reasonable panel despite the fact that the Senior's were also fulfilling a league fixture that evening and no minor players were available for selection.
We started brightly and had four points on the board through Jason Mannix, William Finnegan and Liam Forde.
We dominated the first half, playing some good combination play and ran up an excellent score and conceded very little thanks to some excellent defending, we lead at half time by 1.12 to 0.1.
At half time we brought on four subs, to give all players a run out. We continued the second half in the same manner as the first getting some great points and added a goal and ten points to our interval tally to win by 2-22 to 0-4. This was a good display but no one need be carried away as we are aware that our championship opponents Killeagh are an excellent team.
Panel and scorers: Jerome O'Driscoll, Tadgh O'Sullivan, Jacob Macak, Brian Collins, Barry Collins, Barry Murphy, Jim O'Connor, James Murphy, Damien Buckley, William Finnegan, Liam Forde, Stephen Pratt, Colm Power, Jason Mannix, Gavin Quill, Sean Cotter, Adrian Buckley, Pat Walsh, Stephen Boyce.
Scorers: William Finnegan 1-8, Stephen Pratt 1-2, Jason Mannix 0-4, Colm Power 0-3, Gavin Quill 0-1, Damien Buckley 0-1, Liam Forde 0-1, Pat Walsh 0-1, Stephen Boyce o-1.
The next outing for the junior team is on tonight Thursday July the 16th when we play a Challenge game v Castletownroche in Castletown at 7.30pm. The Championship date is not yet finalised but possibly on July 24th or 25th V Killeagh.

Great Cork Win
After defeating Wexford the previous week the Cork hurlers made the journey to Semple Stadium on last Saturday to take on Clare. With the prize of an All Ireland Quarter Final at stake a close game was expected. The rivalry between the Rebel and banner teams in recent years has been razor sharp with little between the teams whenever they have met. It was the same on Saturday night with the lead changing hands so often. We got nearly forty wides and nearly forty scores. When Clare wiped out a two point deficit and went two ahead late in the second half it didn't look good for Cork. However the Cork team showed commendable skill, heart and courage to go on and win by three points on a scoreline of 0 20 to 0 17. What can we say about Brian Murphy? Playing corner back is a tough task and the No 2 and 4 seldom get much praise except when the name B. Murphy is wearing the jersey. Over the last decade Brian has been given the task of minding and marking some of the greats of modern day hurling and he has always cone up trumps. On Saturday night he had a brilliant game. Cork knew the way the Clare forwards come in waves but the defence ensured that scores would be hard earned. Well-done Brian and all the Cork panel and management on a great win. Cork will now face Galway in the quarter final again in Semple Stadium on Sunday week July 26th. Dublin will play Waterford at 2pm with the Cork game at 4pm.
Bon Voyage Fr. Seanie.
This week Fr Seanie Barry returns to his Mission work in Kenya after a short holiday at home. He was delighted to see Cork win against Wexford and Clare. What gave him most joy of course was to see his beloved Bride Rovers teams in action. He took particular joy and pride in watching the under age teams in action. We wish him Bon Voyage on his return to Africa. Please God he will be back next year to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Bride Roves winning the East Cork Junior B Grade Hurling Championship in 1966 and also the Senior and u 21 All Ireland Double with Cork.

Cork v Kerry.
On Saturday evening in Killarney Cork and Kerry renew their great football rivalry when they meet in the Provincial Final replay. Safe travelling to all who are heading to the Kingdom. Unfortunately one man who attended the drawn Final just two weeks ago won't be there for the replay. I write of the late Tom Fitzgerald of Bridestown, Kildinan. Tom died last Sunday after short illness. He was a great Gael, a great farmer, a proud community man but above all a loving husband and father. Tom's late father Jerome played with Jim Murphy's Kildinan Shamrocks Hurling team in the 1930's. Jerome was involved in everything good and positive about rural Ireland. Tom followed in that vein serving so many local organizations in his native parish and all over North East Cork. Tom gave sterling service to Glenville and Watergrasshill GAA Clubs over many years and was a proud member of the Hill team that won East Cork and County titles in 1974 - he played in the East Cork Final against Cloyne. He loved his native place and was a top class dairy farmer, a great neighbour and a friend to so many. He had a great cheery outlook and if you met Tom Fitz for a chat you always felt the better for it. He loved Gaelic games and travelled to games all over the country following Cork. He was in Killarney for the drawn game between Cork and Kerry. Every one that knew Tom will miss him but his loss to Helen and the family is immeasurable. He was a grand man and 'twas great to have known him. May he rest in peace.
