Cork Back on Track..

The Cork Senior hurlers got their championship campaign last Saturday evening. They travelled to Wexford Park to take on the home side and came away with a good victory. Facing a team like Wexford on their home patch was never going to be easy but the rebels with the aid of the strong breeze in the first half set to work quickly. They used the advantage well to build up a fine lead by half time and despite a spirited Wexford effort in the second thirty five minutes Cork won well. It was a good display from Cork, well done to Brian Murphy and all his team-mates and JBM and his selectors. Cork are drawn against Clare in the next round of the Qualifiers and this game has been fixed for Thurles on the coming Saturday July 11th at 7pm. It will be some weekend in Thurles because Tipp and Louth play in Semple Stadium on Saturday at 2 followed by Limerick and Dublin hurlers and then the Cork game. The following day Sunday the grounds host the Minor and Senior Munster Hurling Finals. Clare demolished Offaly last Saturday and will be much harder opposition than Wexford. Between the 2013 All Ireland games and last years Munster tie a great rivalry has built up between the Rebels and the Banner. Best of luck Brian and Cork.

The Cork v Kerry replay is on Saturday week July 11th in Killarney again, at 7pm.Extra Time if required

Senior Hurling Challenge.

On Tuesday night of last week we played a Challenge game in hurling against Tracton from the South East Division. Tracton are competing in the Premier Intermediate grade and have been drawn against their neighbours and great rivals Courcey Rovers in the next round of the PIHC. It was a good, lively game and the sides were fairly evenly matched in the first half. In the second half we pulled away to win by 3  33 to 0 12.

Senior Hurling Championship.

The two Round Three games Killeagh v Carrigtwohill and Bishopstown v St. Finbarrs are yet to played. The East Cork local derby game will now probably be played on July 19th -Sunday week with no definite date yet for the all city clash - the involvement of Bishopstown's Ken O Halloran with the Cork footballers is making it difficult to put a date on the game. Nevertheless it is expected that the draws for the next rounds will be made on July 19th.

RED FM County Senior League.

We have two upcoming fixtures in the County SHL. On July 14th we are away in Church Road to Blackrock at 7.30pm and on July 18th we have a home game against Newtownshandrum at 3pm. After that we have Ballyhea, Ballymartle, Douglas and Carrigtwohill to play.

JUNIOR HURLING CHAMPIONSHIP.

Killeagh will provide the opposition for our Junior Hurling team in the next round of the East Cork Championship. They defeated Carrigtwohill by  3  17 to  0  17 last weekend. The game was down for Sunday week July 19th the day after Killeagh play Carrigtwohill in the Senior Championship in Midleton. The Cork v Kerry replay now means the Senior game is on the 19th so our Junior fixture is uncertain at the time of writing.
