U10 Football..
Well done to the under 10 girls who notched up another victory on Wednesday evening, making it three out of four wins in their league campaign. The team played at home against Mayfield and from the outset it was going to be a closely fought game. Thanks to some great fielding and team play, particularly at mid field and in the forward line, Bride Rovers were on top by seven points to no score at the half time whistle. However, Mayfield had been playing into a strong sun and the home team would have to be alert in defence in the second half. As expected, Mayfield worked together much better after half time with the sun at their backs, and they put the defence under severe pressure on many occasions. However, the defenders marked tight and contested every ball and held Mayfield to a goal and two points with some great clearing and working the ball out the wings. Sophie made a couple of crucial saves and with five minutes to go there were only two points between the teams. At that point, Nikita won a great ball and hammered it into the net, and the home spectators on the sideline were able to breathe again! Final score: Bride Rovers 1-7 Mayfield 1-2.

U12 Football:
On Friday afternoon, we travelled to Whitechurch to play Rockban. It was definitely a game of two halves with Rockban strong in attack in the first period. Unfortunately, our passing let us down, we gave the ball away far too easily and we weren’t competitive enough in defence. The opposition took full advantage of our mistakes and led at half time by 2-4 to no score. Bride Rovers regrouped and came out much more determined and spirited in the second half. The defence stepped up to the mark and hassled the Rockban attack keeping them scoreless in the second period. At mid field and in the forward line, we worked the ball well with improved team effort, and Shauna converted a great goal and a point. We were in hard luck for another goal but Rockban were the eventual winners on a scoreline of 2-4 to 1-1.
Team: Amy Kennedy, Allana Broderick, Kate Larkin, Caoimhe Gubbins, Naoise McCarthy, Abby Keating, Lily Murray, Ciara O’Flynn, Shauna Hayes (1-1), Meghan Buckley, Ruby Hicks, Cliona Edmunds, Caoimhe Barry, Kate O’Riordan, Caoimhe Kielty.
On Monday evening, the under 12s played their second game of the week away to Aghada. Again, it was a game of two halves with the opposition taking the lead with a couple of early goals. Unfortunately, we were unable to make any impact on the scoreboard and had trouble even keeping the ball in our own half. Aghada notched up a few more scores and were well in the lead at the half-time whistle. In the second period, however, we played much better and Caoimhe Barry, Shauna and Amy scored some fine goals which came from winning the ball in defence and working it up the field with good passing movements and team work. However, we were always chasing the game and at the final whistle Aghada were the decisive winners, although we had a very respectable four goals and a point. Final score 4-1 to 6-5.
