It's Cork County Senior Hurling Championship time once more and for the twelfth season in a row the Green White and Gold of Bride Rovers will be proudly seen in what is known as the Little All Ireland Championship. It's a very hard championship to win, one of the most competitive in the Country. Sixteen club teams plus Divisional sides and UCC and CIT will at this stage in the month of may all fancy their chances of lifting the Sean Og Murphy Cup next October. We reached the Final in 2008, losing to Sars by a single point. Since then we've had some ups and downs but have managed to compete at this level fairly well. After two defeats last year we beat Courcey Rovers but lost out in the next round to Na Piarsaigh. This year we again face a city side, Bishopstown who were beaten finalists in recent years. We met them in Riverstown a few years back and we were lucky to escape with a draw. In the replay we made no mistake and had a good win. Those two games have little relevance to our clash on Saturday evening at Pairc Ui Rinn as our side is a very much changed team this year. Under manager
Joe Delaney and his backroom team Paul Howard,Daniel Lane, and William O Leary (Pictured above) a team with a lot of young players will represent the club. We have had a fantastic bunch of players over the last decade and now the mantle is passing to a new generation of hurlers. We still have a core of very experienced players and hopefully these lads can lead the way and show determination and leadership for the players who are new to senior hurling. We have a few absentees because of long term injuries but this happens to all clubs -and counties too, as we saw this week. We wish the team al the very best, The Bishopstown team with several Cork players will be the hottest of favourites but hopefully our lads will put on a display of hurling befitting our proud tradition. The throw in time on Saturday night is 7.30pm Extra Time if necessary.

GAA Exhibition in Bartlemy.
Those who were lucky enough to be in Bartlemy hall on Sunday last were enthralled at the exhibition of GAA memorabilia staged by Denis O Sullivan from Ballynoe. "You'd want a week to se it all" was a well heard comment. It is a remarkable collection of material especially the massive display on the life and times of Christy Ring, well done Denis on a great presentation. Next Sunday this GAA display is on in Aghada.
Good Luck in Replay girls.
We wish Grace, Jennifer and Eleanor all the very best with thee Cork Ladies Football team in the League Final replay v Galway on Saturdayevening. It's unfortunate it clashes with the Co SHC game but one cannot legislate for draws and replays.
Well Done Palace.
They say sport and drama don’t always mix but I'm not so sure! At the weekend Palace Players of Fermoy were crowned All Ireland Drama champions in Athlone. It is a marvellous achievement for producer Liam Howard, his cast and backstage crew -well done to each and everyone involved. There was a strong East Cork GAA 'involvement' in the cast of Tom Murphy's 'Conversation on a Homecoming'. The Returned Yank was played by Brian Hogan son of former prominent Youghal hurler and referee Noel. The part of 'Missus' was played by Mary Flavin/Colbert mother of Fr O Neills goalie Paul. Several years ago Mary and her brother won the All Ireland Scor Novelty Act Final with a hilarious sketch about taking Driving lessons.
Hectic Weekend in Parish.
It's all go this weekend in the parish with a busy schedule. On Friday night the local Shanowen Players make the Short journey to Ballyhooley to stage John B Keane's Big Maggie in the local hall. Then on Saturday we have the Championship first round and the ladies Football league Final. On Sunday the annual Bartlemy Point to Point Races will be held at Hightown, always a great day out.
