Junior Footballers Out...
The Junior Football team's run of victories in the East Cork Championship came to an abrupt end against Midleton on Friday last at a wet and windy Kileagh. Having reached the quarter final stage with convincing wins over
Lisgoold in both the first and third rounds, the challenge posed by a strong and experienced Midleton outfit proved to be a bridge too far for this year. Midleton won out on the night on a score line of 1-11 to 0-05 points with the Rovers scores coming from William Finnegan (0-04) and Tadhg O'Sullivan (0-01). The Magpies led by 1 7 to 0 2 at half time.
Football has made progress in the club over the past few seasons and is moving in the right direction with the transition from the old guard to a youthful line-up set to stand the team in good state in the coming years. There has been plenty of heart and Rovers spirit within this group and combined with the skill and determination shown, they will certainly be rewarded with success in time. For the coming season it is vital that we compete in the Minor and Junior Football leagues to ensure early season games. Twenty years ago we had two teams in the East Cork Junior Football League.
The team against Midleton was Frank Hogan; Jacob Macak, Brinnie O'Driscoll (Cpt), Tadhg O'Sullivan; Shane O'Connor, Shane Kearney, Stephen Pratt; Jason Pratt, James Murphy; Ryan Prendergast, DJ Cahill, William Finnegan; Michael Kearney, Cian O'Connor, Jason Mannix. Subs: Alan O'Keefe, Damien Buckley, Podge Noonan and Jack O'Connor. The Junior A Football championship in East Cork is now down to just four teams Midleton v Erins Own in one semi and Fr O Neills v Dungourney in the second semi -final. Dungourney pulled off the biggest shock win with years defeating 5 in a row seeking Glenbower Rovers by 10 points to 6.

We really appreciate the continuing support of so many people each week.
THURLES ON SUNDAY.
Memories of great games over the last decade were rekindled on Sunday last in Thurles when the Rebels and Decies met. It might only have been a League Final and a 'dress rehearsal' for the Munster Championship but Thurles on Sunday made hurling followers everywhere sit up and take notice of a new power house in Munster Hurling. It was a shock result in many eyes but it certainly ensures a bumper attendance on June the 7th. Cork were disappointing on the day. The League is now over and al focus must be on getting a fully fit and hungry team for June.
SCRAP.
We are still collecting scrap metal for ongoing fundraising for the Club. There are still plenty bits and pieces out there waiting to be converted into cash. Nothing is too small and nothing is too large, just ring 087 9538077.
Co. Senior Hurling Championship.
Our county senior Hurling Championship first round game against Bishopstown is just over a week away. On League form there is little between us. Both clubs as of last weekend had 5 games played in the RED FM Co SHL and we both have 2 wins and 3 losses. On Monday night Bishopstown had a great win in the first round of the Co Senior Football championship. They say a 'rising tide lifts all boats' and with their Football team going well the 'Town will be full of confidence for the hurling championship. We have several long term injury doubts which make it difficult to get a settled team ready. Nevertheless we have to prepare with what we have and do our best.
Condolences.
We extend our sympathy to the wife and family of the late Jim Cronin. Jim served as a County Board officer for over a decade and was a very well respected chairman. He will also be remembered as an outstanding GAA Historian who wrote many fine books on club and county. May he rest in peace.
