Good win against the Glen..
We played our fourth game in the RED FM Cork County Senior Hurling League on Friday night last. We had lost to Killeagh and Erins Own and defeated Youghal in our opening games. After a week of glorious weather it was more like June than an early April evening when Glen Rovers made the short journey from Blackpool. There was fine crowd present in Pairc na Bride to see the clash of the Rovers at 6.45. I suppose it's the great tradition of the likes of the Glen, the Barrs and the Rockies that makes games against the 'big three' special. Between them they have won so many Counties they have to be respected in every game they play.
They say goals win games and unlike our previous League outings we bagged four on Friday night. In total we scored 4 12 and in reply the Glen got 17 points. It was great win but we conceded far too many scores from frees over the hour. At this level with top class free takers on every team soft frees have to be eliminated . Panel of players v Glen Rovers.; DJ Cahill, D Carr, F Collins, M Collins, D Dooley, S Glasgow, F Hogan, B Johnson, M Kearney, S Kearney, J Mannix, B Murphy, J Murphy, B O' Driscoll, C Power, R Prendergast, S Ryan, S Walsh. Our next SHL game is a home game for us on April the 21st probably at 7pm but the starting time has yet to be confirmed. I remember in July 1977 we travelled to the 'old' Glen field to play the home side in a junior practise game. I think it was the Glen's third team as they had an Intermediate side a\s well as Senior. We won the game but the feature of the contest was the tussle between the two 'Barneys' -our Brendan O Driscoll at full back and the Glen's Liam McAuliffe at full forward!
On Saturday morning last the Senior hurling panel had an early start. They left in the morning for Kerry to do a spot of mountaineering. The summit of Carrantuohill Ireland's highest mountain was the challenge. It's all of 1039 metres high and it was a tired but determined bunch that reached the snow-covered summit after a tough climb. After the descent the group had a very welcome meal to round off a great occasion for all concerned.

Junior Football Championship
Having defeated Lisgoold in the first round of the Championship three weeks ago we have been drawn to meet them again in Round Three. Lisgoold defeated Cobh in Round Two and so we must meet again on April the 25th.
Big Maggie.
The Shanowen Players opened with their production of John B. Keane's classic' Big Maggie' last weekend. It is a brilliant production. The cast will tread the boards again this weekend, on Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights. It's a play well worth seeing so do come along and support great local talent.
