New Rules in this Weekend..
The Rule changes passed at the recent GAA Congress in Cavan come into force this weekend. From a hurling point of view the single most important change is with regards the Penalty shot. It is now a one on one with the free taker having to take the shot from outside the 20 metre line. If the free taker fails to properly lift or strike the sliotar and it marginally crosses the 20 m line it can still be struck on the ground without delay. For technical frees inside the 20 m line no more than 5 players may be on the goal line.
In both hurling and football yellow cards will not carry into extra time in a game. Where neutral linesmen are officiating the referee may consult them in regards to the validity of a score where doubt exists.
