Laois- 1915.

Laois won the All Ireland Hurling title in 1915 -one hundred years ago. Plans are underway in the O Moore County to commemorate this anniversary. In the 1915 Final Laois defeated Cork and by a quirk of fate Cork were trained by a Corkman, Pat Lee, from Bartlemy village.(Pictured above back left) The terms 'trainer', 'manager' or 'coach' were not invented back then but Pat Lee  is credited as being a huge influence on the winning side. Pat had been a great player on the 'old' Bartlemy and Rathcormac teams in the late 1880's. He found employment with the GS&W Railway Company and went to work in various Train Stations. It was while he was working at Ballybrophy, Co. Laois that he got involved with the local GAA scene. Ballygeehan were the Laois Co SH Champions in 1914 and thus had the selection of the County team in 1915 -in a similar way Redmonds were the Cork standard bearers. On Friday night next March the 21st  an event is being held in the little hamlet of Ballygeehan to kick-start the commemorative events for the year. Relations of Pat Lee from Bartlemy, Limerick and Spain have been invited as well as representatives from the Club. County Board Chairman Gerard Lane is a relative of Pat Lee as are the Cotter family of Hightown Bartlemy and the Hanrahan family of Ashfield Place. On Easter Monday Cork and Laois will play a Senior Hurling game in Ballacolla (Clogh-Ballacolla) is the present day GAA Club in the Parish. Later in the year a Booklet on the 1915 win will be published.
