Brave Display by Seniors Ladies:.

The Bride Rovers Senior Ladies Football team travelled to Mourneabbey last Saturday night for the opening round of the Division1 A Football League. On a wet and windy night for football, the game was delayed by an hour after the referee failed to appear. Thanks to Justin Murphy from Castletownroche who answered the call to ref the game.

Mourneabbey, current County & Munster Champions, fielded 14 out of the 19 players they used in their All-Ireland Final defeat. Their experience told in the opening quarter as our backs were under severe pressure. Caitriona Vaughan was in outstanding form in goals, stopping numerous one on one goal attempts. Having weathered the onslaught from Mourneabbey early on, we gradually settled down and played ourselves back into the game. Grace Kearney fired in a few goals and at half time we trailed 2-05 to 2-02.

Two quick points by the Rovers at the start of the second half reduced the deficit to the minimum. However Mourneabbey reply was instant, two quick goals had us on the back foot but once again the Rovers did not lie down and scored some great points following some excellent passages of play.

Mourneabbey and the Rovers swapped a few more goals before the final whistle ended this game.
Final score: Bride Rovers 3-09 Mourneabbey 6-08

It was a brave display by all and we can certainly look forward to a competitive season ahead.
