Last Saturday February the 21st the inaugural Tony Walsh Cup Hurling Tournament was held. This was a four team tournament, two semi finals with the winners playing for the Cup and the runners up playing in the Shield Final.
We had teams from Limerick, Waterford, and Tipperary joining with our own hurlers in playing for this new trophy. The winners of the two semi finals Bride Rovers and Tallow played in the Cup Final while the runners up Murroe Boher and Lorra Dorrha played in the Plate Final.
In the first semi final at 12.30 Bride Rovers defeated Lorrha Dorrha from Tipperary.1.10 to 1.7 An hour later Tallow from Waterford took on Murroe Boher from Limerick and defeated them.
The finals were down for decision at 3 and 4 o clock.with Lorra Dorrha defeating Murroe Boher in the plate and Tallow edging out Bride Rovers by a single point after extra time 1-11 to 1-10
A magnificent new Cup Tony Walsh Perpetual Trophy was presented by his wife Nora and is now to become a fitting memorial to a great Gael. A special souvenir programme was produced for the Tournament.
