U14 Ladies Football League:..
The U14 ladies football team lined out on Sunday for their first game of the league.Unfortunately, they came up against a very strong Erin's Own side who got off to a good start with a goal from a penalty less than ten minutes in. Soon after, Rachel O'Flynn answered with a well-struck goal and after twenty minutes the teams were level with 1.1 apiece, our point coming from Caoimhe Hazelwood. In the second quarter, Erinâs Own pulled away and shot some well-worked scores and at half time they led 3.3 to 1.1.
Erin's
Own came out very strong in the second half and piled the pressure on the
forward line. Sarah Murphy in goals was under constant attack but she withstood
much of the pressure and pulled off some great saves. However, Erin's Own had
the upper hand for most of the second half coming out deserved winners with a
final score of 3.7 to 1.2. Despite coming up against a stronger team on the
day, Bride Rovers worked hard and never gave up. They held the opposition to 4
points in the second half. It was their first match of the season and no doubt
they will build on Sunday's spirited performance and continue to improve as the
season progresses.
