U16 Football: East Cork Ladies Football League: Group A:..
Sunday February 8th at Watergrasshill
Watergrasshill 3-8 Bride Rovers 5-10
Our U16s got their season off to a great start with a win over neighbours Watergrasshill last Sunday in the opening fixture of the year. The first half was very exciting with a high number of scores from both sides, notably from our own Katie Quirke who scored 3-1 from full-forward in that period. We led 4-5 to 2-5 at halftime but the game was far from over. We had to make some adjustments to our formation for the second half and they worked on this occasion. Claire Hickey stood in for injured goalkeeper Sarah Murphy and performed very well in a position that was unfamiliar to her. We saw some fantastic defending from Chloe, Emily, Caoimhe, Emma Hazelwood, Aisling, Lucy and Rachel who dropped back from the forward line. Emma Barry and Grace covered huge spaces around mid-field while upfront, Fiona, Andrea, Talitha (scored a great goal on her Rovers debut) and Michelle all kept the Watergrasshill very busy and kept the scoreboard ticking over.
The most pleasing aspect was a very evident appetite for the game and a high workrate. If we show the same attitude all year, we should give a very good account of ourselves.
Match panel : Claire Hickey, Chloe Murphy, Emily Larkin, Caoimhe Hazelwood, Lucy Hicks, Aisling Finnegan, Emma Hazelwood, Grace Culloty (1-5), Emma Barry, Fiona Barry (0-2), Andrea Quinn OâDonovan, Talitha Neill (1-0), Rachel OâFlynn, Katie Quirke (3-1), Michelle Lane (0-2).
