Tough Draws in East Cork...
The draws for the 2015 East Cork Junior Hurling Championships were made at a recent meeting of the |Divisional Board in Midleton. W e have teams entered in the Junior A grade and Junior C Grade competitions. We couldn't have got much tougher opposition in our opening round games. In the Junior A Championship we have been paired with St. Catherines. The Saint are making a return to East Cork after an absence of over three decades during which time they participated in the Cork County Intermediate, Senior and Premier Intermediate championships. Back in East Cork and with several Rebel Og County titles in the bag in recent years they will provide formidable opposition. Likewise in the C Grade we face a very strong Youghal side in the first round. The football championship draws will be made shortly.

Death of County Board President.
At the weekend came the sad news of the death of Dan Hoare, the recently selected President of the Cork County GAA Board. At the annual County Convention in Mid December Dan spoke in glowing terms of his life-long association with the GAA and reflected on the honour being bestowed on him for a three year term as President of the County Board. A native of Conna Dan served his native parish and hurling Cub in an exemplary fashion for many decades. He served as a County Board member for Cloyne and then when St. Catherines went up Intermediate he was their delegate. He went on to become an outstanding and well respected Treasurer of the Cork Board. After stepping down at County level Dan served as Cistieor of the Munster Council for several years. Always courteous and friendly Dan Hoare truly gave a lifetime of service to the GAA. We in Bride Rovers extend our sympathy to Dan's family and to his brother Dave also. May he rest in peace.

Hurling Tournament.
The big news on the Club hurling front is that we are promoting an Inter County Senior Club Tournament at the end of February. It will be a four team tournament with Tallow (Waterford) , Murroe-Boher (Limerick), Lorrha (Tipperary) and Bride Rovers competing . back in the 1970's and early 80's when we held an annual Festival we played host to different Club teams in Senior Tournament games but as junior club we never participated in these games. This Tournament will usher in the 2015 playing season in an exciting fashion.
The Tournament Fixtures are as follows;
12.30 Bride Rovers v Lorrha/Dorrha
1.30 Tallow v Murroe/Boher
The winners of these two games will play in the Cup Final and the runners up in the Shield Final.

Twitter and Tweet. And Website.
The Tweets and Twitters have been going well all year. So many people at home and abroad are now very hi-tech when it comes to keeping in touch with the activities of the Bride Rovers Club. The online editions of newspapers are growing in popularity. Meanwhile you can follow the Club on twitter at twitter@ Bride RoversGAA or on our own website at www.briderovers.ie Any news items or general items of interest are very welcome for inclusion and should be sent to Gerard Lane. Please inform family members, relations and friends of Bride Rovers about the ways and means of keeping in contact with the Club. Christmas time is when we all think of those away abroad in a special way so tell them all about how to keep in touch with the Club at home and how they can still support the Club lotto online.
Laois 1915.
Plans are underway in Laois to commemorate the Laois team that won the county's only All Ireland senior title in 1915. The team was trained by Pat Lee, a native of Bartlemy village. Pat was working as Station master at Ballybrophy Train Station at the time. He got involved with the Kilcotton Hurling Club. Laois lost the 1914 Final to Clare and then defeated Cork in the 1915 Final in October of that year. Ballygeeghan Club supplied many of the players on the side and the present day Ballacolla/Clough Club is the successor of the Ballygeehan Club. Contact has been made between our club and Ballacolla/Clough. Cork Senior Hurlers are playing Laois on Easter Monday. It is hoped that later in the year we may play games at different levels against the Laois Club. Pat Lee also trained Waterford Senior Hurlers.
Volunteers.
We are always seeking new players from four years and upwards and of course older players who may have played with other clubs and are now living in the parish are more than welcome to join the Bride Rovers Club. People who never played the games are encouraged to join too as we have a role for everyone. Maybe your talent is in gardening or landscaping, in IT or fundraising, in catering, cleaning, flag-making or any other of the many tasks that have to be undertaken in a busy GAA Club. Some people are afraid if they 'join up' they will be overburdened but donât worry on that score. If you want to give an hour a week or an hour a month to the Bride Rovers Club that contribution will be very much appreciated and respected. They say 'many hands make light work' and in the case of a GAA Club it is really the truth. In the next few weeks many people will be making New Year's Resolutions -why not get involved with your local GAA Club? If you want further information on what you could do ring 087 9538077.
