Footballers in Quarter Final..

On this coming Saturday October the 25th our junior B Football team are back in championship action. Having had an easy win over Cloyne's second string a few weeks back we now face Russell Rovers in the quarter final of the competition. This is the Shanagarry club's first team and like us they had an easy first round victory, easily accounting for Aghada. In the game against Cloyne we scored 2  12 which was good scoring considering the fact that we were short a big contingent of players due to various reasons. Russell Roves have traditionally been a very strong football club and will go into this quarter final as favourites.  They finished in third place in their group in the East Cork Junior Football League with five wins while we struggled to fulfil our fixtures. We are still missing a few players through injury so hopefully our team will play to it's potential on the day.  Match is Saturday afternoon in Castlelyons at 2.30pm ET

MINOR HURLERS DEFEATED IN LEAGUE FINAL.

At Ballinlough on Saturday last our Minor Hurlers contested the East Rebel Og Minor A Hurling League Final. The opposition was provided by Eire Og who just two days previously had won the County Championship title, defeating Cuchullians in a  replay on Thursday night. This was a repeat of our clash with Eire Og in the first round of the Championship back in July. That game was a high scoring thriller which we could easily have won. In last Saturday's game the benefit of still being involved in the championship was obvious with the Mid Cork side. They again scored freely, notching up an impressive tally of 19 points. We had a much rearranged team since the championship encounter. In fairness the lads played very well but while we scored two goals our points total of just five was never going to be enough to bother the County Champions.

Best of Luck Fermoy.

Next Sunday is a red letter day for our neighbours in Fermoy when their Intermediate Hurlers contest the County Final in Pairc Ui Chaoimh. Fermoy have had a very long road to this Final with two draws and replays en route. The opposition in the Final will be fellow Avondhu side Charleville who have made steady progress in this grade since winning the County JHC a few years ago. Fermoy are trained by Denis Ring whose exploits with St. Colmans and Blackwater College are legendary. We wish all the players and mentors the very best in their attempt to bring the Cork County Intermediate Hurling championship title to Fermoy.
