Footballers Advance..

Our Junior Football team played Cloyne in the East Cork Junior B Grade Football championship in Lisgoold on Saturday last. The opposition was Cloyne's second team and in fairness they proved no match for our lads. We had a comprehensive victory on a 2  12 to o  3 scoreline and the score indicates the nature of the contest.

DETAILS.We travelled to Lisgoold for the 1st Round in the hope that we might have a reasonably strong  team as many of the panel (12 in total) were gone to World Darts Grand Prix and also James Ber's Stag Party  but the diehards did not let us down and we took the field with 20 players. We opened brightly and Barry Johnson had a point on the board in minutes. This was quickly followed by a volley to the back of the net and once again the scorer was Barry. We had full control in the first 20 minutes and by then we had 2-6 on the scoreboard thanks to some wonderful exchange play. Our second goal was a peach when Shane Walsh  followed up a high lob and from 14 metres flicked the ball off the ground while in full flight and looped the ball to the net over the advancing keeper. Cloyne registered a point from a free late in the half to leave us ahead by 2-6 to 0-1 at half-time. We then used the panel and some excellent points from Damien in the second half had us running out winners on a scoreline of 2-12 to 0-3.This was a victory by a panel of players who gave a total commitment to the Club on the day and we now look forward to the Quarter Final against Russell Rovers on Saturday week possibly.

Panel and Scorers:Frank Hogan, Tadgh O'Sullivan, James Murphy, Jim O'Connor, Stephen Pratt(0-2),Barry Murphy, Jacob Makau, Barry Johnson(1-3), Shane Walsh(1-2), Donnacha Carr(0-1), Padraig Murphy, William Finnegan, Pat Walsh(0-1), Daniel Dooley, Damien Buckley(0-3), Mike Liddane, Fergus Collins, Podge Noonan, Cian Howard.   Well done to all the players who turned out on the day.

James to referee County Senior Football Final.

Congratulations to our own James Bermingham (Pictured above) on being appointed to referee next Sunday's Cork County Senior Football championship Final. In a unique pairing Carbery Rangers of Rosscarbery take on Ballincollig. It is a great honour for James and the Bride Rovers Club. Best of luck to James and his officials. The final is on in Pairc Ui Chaoimh on Sunday afternoon next.

 Twitter & Website.

The Tweets and Twitters have been going well all year. So many people at home and abroad are now very hi-tech when it comes to keeping in touch with the activities of the Bride Rovers Club. The online editions of newspapers are growing in popularity. Meanwhile you can follow the Club on twitter at twitter@ Bride RoversGAA or on our own website at www.briderovers.ie  Any news items or general items of interest are very welcome for inclusion and should be sent to Gerard Lane. Please inform family members, relations and friends of Bride Rovers about the ways and means of keeping in contact with the Club.

The big news on the Twitter Front   is that  the club has reached a mighty total of  1000 followers on Twitter. The followers just keep increasing.   Well done and keep spreading the good news far and wide. Please tell anyone and everyone that they can follow all the happenings in Bride Rovers wherever they may be.

It's such a change in a few short decades. I can recall Tim O Riordan of Glenagowl telling of how pigeons were released after matches in Thurles and Limerick with the result of the game on a scrap of paper tied onto their leg. The pigeon would fly home in maybe an hour whilst the spectators could spend three or four hours travelling back. This was before the wireless was invented! Changing times indeed.
