Curraheen Park here we come...

Our major fundraiser goes ahead this Friday night in Curraheen Park, Cork when we hold our Night at the Dogs & Donkey Derby. This is the biggest Fundraiser the Club has held in many years. With anew Development costing over €200,000 just commencing the success of Friday night's venture is essential. We have been selling tickets from house to house all over the parish and in neighbouring areas over the last few weeks and have got a great response.  Fundraising is never easy but with a specific project in mind people understand the need for huge financial input. Our new Development will consist of a fully flood lit astro turf training arena specially designed for maximum benefit for hurling training. This facility we are presently construction will be of great benefit to all club players especially younger players anxious to hone their hurling skills during the winter/spring period when on-pitch activity is very limited,
The GAA in the parish of Rathcormac, Bartlemy and Kildinan has come along way since the late 1880's when local enthusiasts led by Fr. Edmond Barry first organised teams to play hurling and football games on the lawns near Kilshannig House. The formation of the Bride Rovers Club in 1928 was a turning point in Gaelic games promotion in the area. Since the initial club founding 86 years ago there have been many ups and downs, lean years and golden ages. In that we are no different from most clubs whose fortunes ebb and flow as time goes by. The Bride Rovers Club was homeless until 1977 when Pairc na Bride or a seven acre field as it then was, was purchased. Prior to this time the generosity of landowners all over the parish was relied upon. When the field was purchased, fenced and levelled and dressingrooms built a total of £57,000 had been spent. Thankfully this was completely paid for in a few years. A meeting room/ catering room was added later. Just three years  ago we built our astro turf surface with a hurling wall at a cost of close to €100,000. Conscious of the need to keep improving our facilities the new development which has been planned with two years is now about to become a reality. There is a lot of counting and fundraising in €200,000 but with the full backing of our community we have undertaken this huge project.
In the early years of the club gate receipts from matches hosted and the running of tournaments provided the cash for the day to day running of the club. Down the years carnivals, festivals and various draws were held. We had hot-rod, pony racing, terrier racing, sports meetings and a Night at the Dogs back in 1989. That was in Youghal and made a profit of £821. For the Night at the Dogs on Friday night next we have received massive support in the form of donations, sponsorship and in general ticket sales. The Bride Rovers Club wish to thank each and every individual and firm that has backed us.
