Senior Football....
The first round of the senior county championship was played at Boherbue on Tuesday evening July 22nd and the Rovers repeated their league final win over the same opposition on a scoreline of 7-12 to 3-7. Well done to everyone involved.
Bride Rovers Seniors got their championship campaign off to a great start with a very convincing win over Boherbue on Tuesday 22nd of July. The final score finished 7.12 to 3.7 but the match was much tougher than the scoreline suggests as with 8 minutes to go Bride Rovers were only ahead by 5 points. The game was a physical encounter as expected and with some injuries going into the game we were depending on an all panel performance and that we got. Boherbue had home advantage and settled better into the game as a result. When the Bride Rovers forwards got into their groove however there was a few green and white flags raised which steadied the ship. Boherbue were still raw from the earlier defeat in the County final and were not going down without a serious challenge. The game was tightly marshalled by the referee who used the sin bin 4 times during the game with both sides playing with 14 for two 10 minute periods. The tempo of the game was a credit to both teams on a very warm evening and was a great game for the Rovers girls to get before their second round clash with Rosscarbery on Tuesday 29th July in Rathcormac. With a very busy schedule for the next number of weeks for all players with Camogie, Junior Football and Minor competitions in full swing it was of the utmost importance to secure the two points in the first outing. A busy few weeks leading up to the game on the fixtures front meant there was no practice game for this group of players since the county final victory three weeks previous, but there were no cobwebs present on the night and some excellent passages of play showed why the Rathcormac side were deserving winners.
