Senior Championship on Sunday...
With Douglas defeating Sarsfields in the first round of the CO SHC at Pairc Ui Rinn on Monday night we now face into our Round 2 game in the Co Senior Hurling championship on Sunday next June 29th. Sars were the favourites to win this game and if that had happened we would have had a long wait for our next game. That scenario would have suited us as we are plagued with injuries at present. Now we must get ready for the challenge of Sars who are contesting the 'back-door' route for the first time ever. As a result of the Senior game going ahead in Pairc Ui Rinn at 3 o clock next Sunday our East Cork Junior A Grade championship game v Cobh fixed for Caherlag at 3.30 will have to be rescheduled.
Douglas beat Sars by three points on Monday night after Sars had fought back to get on level terms with a few minutes to go. It is all of six years ago since Sars defeated us in the County Senior Hurling Final of 2008. Since then the Riverstown club have added two more titles in 2010 and again in 2012 as well as contesting two other County Finals. Having been in five of the last six County Finals they are a very experienced outfit. Against Sars they started minus three of their top players all of whom will be available on Sunday next so we face a huge challenge. The injury count is very disappointing with several players facing long spells out of action. Just a point separated us in that County Final after we had dominated the first forty minutes of the game. Since then we have found it difficult to put together any serious sequence of wins in the championship and two years ago we just avoided relegation when defeating Cloyne. For Sunday next we will really be looking to our younger players to step up to the mark for the team. We've been in many tough games at senior level over the years and always responded in typical Bride Rovers fashion when the need was greatest. On Sunday all we can say is 'go for it lads' the parish is behind ye. Let's have massive support in Pairc Ui Rinn on Sunday next.
