Footballers advance in the County...
 Our Junior football team advanced to the Quarter Final of the County Junior B Grade Football championship last Saturday night. Our second round game against Ballyhooley was originally fixed for Castletownroche but was changed midweek to Canon Peter O Leary Memorial Park Castlelyons. Our first round win over Abbey Rovers in Kilworth a month ago had been a one sided affair and with five players missing from that victory we weren't over confident going in to Saturday's match. Mike Kearney, Brendan Walsh, Alan O Keeffe, Brendan Walsh and Damien Buckley were all absentees for different reasons.  Liam Buckley of Glenagowl, grandfather of panelists Damien and Jamie died unexpectedly on Saturday morning but the game went ahead.  Our sympathy to the Buckley family who are very involved with the Bride Rovers Club.
Back in 1991 Terry Broderick scored a great goal for the Rovers in a football championship game against Lisgoold in his first year on the Junior team. How time flies and last Saturday evening Terry repeated that feat in Castlelyons against Ballyhooley  to give us a great start and for good measure added a point also in the first half! A second goal from the boot of William Finnegan gave us a comfortable lead of 2 2 to 0  2 after fifteen minutes. Ballyhooley did come into the contest much more in the last ten minutes of the half and added some good points. Further white flags from Barry Johnson and Shane Walsh saw us build a comfortable lead of seven points at half time. Ballyhooley started the second half with real intent and scored two good points. The vital score came when a good move involving Shane Kearney, Daniel Dooley and Sean O Brien ended with a second goal from William Finnegan to put us in a commanding position again. The last quarter saw Ballyhooley attack again and again. They reduced the gap to four points before scores from Barry and Sean O Brien restored our two goal lead. In the closing minutes Ballyhooley laid siege to our goalmouth. They got four close in frees in a row and went for goals. Our defence held out well. We did concede two points but held on to win by 3  8 to 0  12. Team and scorers;
 Frank. Hogan, Jim. O Connor, Brenny O Driscoll, James. Murphy, Daniel Dooley, Shane. Kearney, Tomas Kearney, Shane Walsh (0-1), Liam Forde, Jason. Pratt, Sean O Brien (0-1), Jason. Mannix, William. Finnegan (2-0), Terry Broderick (1-1), Barry Johnson (0-5).
Subs: Jacob Macak, Cian O Connor, Ryan Prendergast.
This win puts us into the quarter final of the competition against Whitechurch.  Whitechurch lost their first round game to Goleen but have since had big wins over Gleann na Laoi and Crosshaven. The Quarter final game is down for decision on July 14th but this is dependent on the date of our Senior Hurling game.

Tickets for the weekly Lotto Draw are priced at just  € 2 each and can be purchased from Club members. They are also available in local business outlets  and online at locallotto.ie Support for the weekly Lotto is vital and greatly appreciated as the costs involved in running a GAA Club are increasing all the time. As well as the day to day costs we are planning more major Development work in Pairc na Bride in 2014 so finance is always needed. We are always looking for new Lotto Ticket sellers so if you could sell even a few tickets each week it would be of great benefit to the Club.

COUNTY SENIOR HURLING CHAMPIONSHIP.
We await the losers of the Sarsfields v Douglas game for our Round 2 fixture in the Co. SHC. The Douglas v Sars game is fixed for Pairc Ui Rinn on next  Monday night June 23rd with the losers scheduled to play us the following weekend, June 28th or 29th. These fixtures may change of course due to various circumstances including inter-county activity. On this coming Friday night June 20th we are away to Courcey Rovers in the Red FM Co Senior Hurling league . The game is timed for 7.45 in Ballinspittal.

EAST CORK JUNIOR HURLING.
We are down to play Cobh in the first round of the East Cork JAHC on Sunday June 29th. This fixture will depend on whether our SHC game goes ahead on that weekend or not.

CORK IN MUNSTER FINAL.
For the second year in a row Cork Senior Hurlers defeated Clare in the Munster Championship. The Cork win over the Banner at Thurles last Sunday in no way avenges the defeat in the All Ireland final in September but certainly lays down a marker that the Rebels are well up for this years championship. Cork are now in the Munster Final which will be a repeat of last years Provincial decider against Limerick. This contest will be played in Pairc UI Chaoimh on Sunday July the 13th in what will be a fitting 'good-bye' to the 'Old' Stadium before it's redevelopment. Tickets will be  like hen's teeth for this game. Any Club member who is prepared to do Stewarding duty on the day please contact our Club Runai.
