Good Win For Footballers...
On Saturday last our junior footballers played Abbey Rovers(Castletownroche) in the first round of the County Junior B Championship. The fixture was originally down for Fermoy but as Rathpeacon and Shanballymore in the same competition was also pencilled in for Fermoy our game was changed to Kilworth. They say that a wet and windy may fills the barns full of hay. That may be so but windy conditions make good football very difficult and there was a near gale force wind blowing up the field in Kilworth. We played against the conditions in the first half but in fairness the lads coped well. The strength of the wind was well illustrated a couple of times when the ball was kicked up high and it went backwards over the kickers head. With Jason Pratt and Shane Walsh getting on top at midfield and our defence playing great football our forwards got an early supply of possession. We had first half goals from Brendan Walsh, Alan O Keeffe and Daniel Dooley and with six points added we led by 3  6 to 0  1 at half time. Having played against the elements this was a great lead but there was still a half hour to go. We added a fourth goal from James Hogan in the second half to win comfortably by 4  6 to 0  3. In total we used eighteen players and with several others missing through injury etc it was a very satisfactory result. Abbey Roves will join the other first round losers in the Round 2 Draw(made on Tuesday May 13th) while we wait for the next round. Well done to all concerned and we hope Vincent is back in action again.

 RED FM SENIOR HURLING LEAGUE.
Our SHL fixtures were rearranged last weekend. Our Sunday home game v St. Finbarrs went off. Instead we travelled  to Fermoy on Monday nighjt to take on Youghal in the SHL. Youghal are down to play Newtownshandrum in the County SHC in Fermoy so the seasiders were anxious to have a game in the venue before then. Monday nights game was our first meeting with Youghal since a Saturday in October 2003 when we defeated them in the Co IHC quarter final replay in Ballynoe.
We had just three of the 2003 side starting on Monday night. The first half was very low scoring with defences on top. The lead changed hands several times but Youghal were up by three points at the break. We came more into the contest in the second half and the scores came more frequently. In the end we had a good win  on a scoreline of  2  13 to 1  12.  Team: D. Fitzgerald, J. Pratt, B. Walsh, R. Prendergast, L. Forde, B. Murphy, M. Kearney, M. Liddane, C. O' Connor, S. Walsh, B. Murphy, M. Collins, J. Mannix, O. Murphy, B. Johnson,. Subs: D. Lenihan & S. Glasgow.
Thanks to Fermoy for the use of their facilities.

As well as the day to day costs we are planning more major Development work in Pairc na Bride in 2014 so finance is always needed. We are always looking for new Lotto Ticket sellers so if you could sell even a few tickets each week it would be of great benefit to the Club.

 JFC GAME IN PITCH.
On this Friday night May 16th Pairc na  Bride  hosts a third Round game in the Easst Cork Junior5 A grade Football championship. The contestants are Glenville and Dungourney and the game is timed for 7pm. Members that are available are asked to be at the pitch at 6 o clock.

SCRAP METAL COLLECTION.
As part of our ongoing fundraising campaign  the Bride Rovers Club are organising a variety of events during the year. Raising finance at present is not an easy task but the people of the parish have always supported the GAA Club and long may this continue. We have plans for a major new all-weather facility in Pairc na Bride. A few years ago we had a very successful Scrap Collection in the parish and on Saturday week  May the 24th we will have a similar collection. We are aware of the fact that a huge amount of material was gathered three years ago but we know that there is still a lot of scrap out there.  All types of metal will be accepted as well as old car, tractor and lorry batteries. When we say 'all types of metal'  we mean just that -anything from drink cans to combine harvesters!  Old copper cylinders and piping, bicycles, galavanised sheeting, cars, farm machinery, old wheels, unused utensils are all welcome. We will have at least two 'depots' available on the day and for a few days before hand. If you can bring the scrap to these depots it will be much appreciated but if transport of the material is a problem let us know and we can arrange collection. Please spread the  message to neighbours, friends and relations about this Scrap Collection as every little helps.
For further details and information please contact any of the following numbers; 087 9538077 ,  086 8552537, 086 8193186, 086 8453364.
When you ring any of these numbers you can make suitable arrangements for the delivery and or collection of the scrap metal. Bride Rovers Club really appreciates the ongoing support of the community both in supporting all our teams and helping with the ongoing development of our facilities.  Scrap will be accepted from everyone and anyone and even if you are outside the parish and have material that you want removed please contact any of these numbers for prompt attention.
