U21 Football

U21 Championship Final
Bride Rovers 4-8 Douglas 4-5
Venue: Watergrasshill
Date: Monday, 21st April 2014

The footballing highlight of the week was undoubtedly the U21B county championship final win over Douglas last Monday. We have been trying to win this for a few years and have come very close with some good teams during that time so it was a tremendous relief to finally cross the line! Douglas were the favourites of many entering the game and provided the stiff opposition that we expected. We played with the strong wind in the first half but were rocked by the concession of a penalty, which was scored, and a sin-binning in the same incident after a few minutes of the game. Despite this, we knuckled down and survived the sin-binning period relatively unscathed. However, the omens were not good at half time with the scores tied 2-4 each and facing into a strengthening wind. Nerves seemed to disappear at half time though and our players played with greater confidence in the second half. We dominated possession and picked off three points to edge in front. A goal from Elaine Culloty ten minutes from time proved priceless as it gave us a 5 point lead. Douglas countered strongly and scored a late goal of their own but we scored 2 more points to earn a win by three which sparked off great celebrations. Jennifer Barry was outstanding throughout and had few rivals for player of the match.
Well done to Bridget Forde, Niamh Barry, Meeks Carr and Eleanor Ahern who showed great judgement on the sideline, making the right calls to help us secure this win.

Minor D League Final
 Bride Rovers 5-2               Ballinascarthy 2-1

Congratulations to our minor camogie panel who won the Minor D league with a comfortable win over Ballinascarthy at Castle Road last Saturday. Ballinascarthy had beaten us in the league group game so this was a great achievement. Trish O’Sullivan was outstanding throughout and we were grateful to Sarah O Flynn who pulled off a great save at a crucial stage of the game.

U14 Camogie
Wednesday, April 16th, Rathcormac
Bride Rovers 9-7      Ballinhassig 5-3

Our U14 camogie players got off to a great start in the U14 league with a win over Ballinhassig at Pynes last Wednesday. This was our first game at B grade and Ballinhassig have often been an A grade team in the past so this gives us great confidence moving forward.

Thanks to everyone who supported our flag-day collection on Easter Saturday, April 19th in Fermoy and Rathcormac. This was a crucial fundraiser and all help and support is much appreciated.
