Junior Ladies Football....

Tuesday, April 1st, Lisgoold
Lisgoold 1-8 Bride Rovers 3-8

On a wet and windy Tuesday night in Lisgoold, our junior ladies team made it 2 wins from 2. It was a hard fought game, but we defended well, and our forwards came up with crucial scores at crucial times in both halves. Thanks to 2 goals from Imelda Dorgan in the first half, and points from Aoife Deasy & Sinead Walsh, we led at the break by 2-4 to 1-2.

Lisgoold put us under pressure right from the off in the second half with a couple of scores, however we defended really well. Subs Sarah Barry & Meg Kelleher added some vital scores to end the Lisgoold challenge. We ran out winners at the end on a scoreline of 3-8 to 1-8.

U21 Football
 U21 Championship
Bride Rovers (7.11) V St. Michaels (2.3)
Venue: St. Michaels, Mahon
Date: Friday, 04th April 2014

We headed to St. Michaels grounds in Mahon on Friday 04th April for our first U21 game of the year.  As there are few teams in the competition it’s run off very fast with a straight knock out championship, so this was a County Quarter Final.  Friday started out to be a great day for a game of football but as we arrived to the pitch the conditions deteriorated rapidly and it was a very wet, windy & dull evening.
We won the toss so played with the wind in the first half to get started with an advantage, the girls let the ball and the wind do a lot of the work in the first half, but ran at St. Michaels fast and hard from the first throw of the ball.  We had talented forwards and this was evident by the final score on the night.
Support play from the girls was fantastic especially from the half back line, running forward and supporting midfield and half forwards.  For the duration of the game the girls were in control, showing off with fantastic passages of play all over the field and throwing themselves in front of every ball and player!  Each and every player played a huge role throughout the game and remained determined to beat St. Michaels until the final whistle.  Our backs were in top form dispossessing and working out the ball without fault.  Midfield’s work rate was huge with the two girls covering a huge amount of ground, and the forwards shooting for the most part was point perfect both over the bar and in the back of the net.
I think the girls had a point to prove to St. Michaels as they had prevented them from winning a minor county medal 2 years ago, this I think fuelled their work rate for the game.  The girls finished out victorious on a massive score line of 7.11 to 2.3.
We’d like to hugely welcome Rachel O’Callaghan to Bride Rovers Ladies Football Club, a great addition to the club and who played a super game on Friday night.  We look forward to seeing more of Rachel on the training and playing field.

U14 Football
 Saturday, April 5th, Fermoy
 Fermoy 1-3         Bride Rovers 6-10
Bride Rovers’ U14 ladies footballers recorded their first win of 2014 in style when they overcame neighbours Fermoy in the East Cork league last Saturday at St Colman’s pitch. Despite missing a few regulars through injury, the girls put in a determined performance from the start and showed good defensive skills and accuracy in attack. This result gives us renewed hope in the East Cork league and of possibly qualifying for county championship competition in June. The East Cork Feile qualifiers are now scheduled for next Sunday, April 13th but a venue is not known at the moment.
