Munster Scór Final on Sunday...
The University of Limerick Concert Hall is the venue for the Munster Scor Final on Sunday next at 2.30. The Bride Rovers Club will be taking part in the Leiriu Final - this was formerly the Nuachleas or Novelty Act but now the emphasis is on Irish History and Culture. We won the East Cork and County Titles during the last month and qualified for the Munster Semi Final in Cappamore on Saturday evening last. Competitors from Clare, Cork, Limerick and Tipperary took part in Cappamore and when the results were announced we were through to the Munster Final. The other teams in the Leiriu Final on Sunday in UL are from Clare, Kerry and Limerick.
Though participation in Scor isn't what it was in former years the standard in the Leiriu is very high. Our sketch deals with the battle of Clontarf, the life and death of Brian Boru and the effect of all these on Clare Hurling! Best of luck to John, Carol Marie, Mossy, Orla and James on Sunday next. Thanks to our loyal band of supporters who travelled to Cappamore on Saturday last. Next Sunday has many counter attractions and with The Chastitute on stage in Rathcormac Hall on Sunday night it will be hard to get a huge crowd in Limerick in the afternoon. Tickets for the Munster Final can be pre purchased and will also be on sale on the day at the venue. As well as Bride Rovers there will be four other Cork Clubs taking part on Sunday;
Rince Fóirne: Clann na nGael Ceol Uirlise: Boherbue, Bailéad Ghrúpa: St. John's Rince Seit: Boherbue
Question Time was always an integral part of Scor but this year it has been replaced by a separate Table Quiz competition. On Thursday night of last week bhi an comortais sin ar siuil ib Pairc Ui Chaoimh. Twenty seven teams competed and Millstreet were the winners with 83 out of 100 marks. We finished as runners up with 76 marks. Our foireann of John Arnold, Ger Lane, Pa O Driscoll and Tom Mulcahy were presented with trophies by Pat Malone, Cork Scor Chairman.
Cavanaghs of Fermoy Avondhu/Imokilly JHL Div. 1.
We travelled to Newtownshandrum last Friday night for Round 2 of the Avondhu/Imokilly League match and had 23 players despite injuries, work commitments and players not being available due to being on the fringe of the senior team.
It was a miserable night for hurling and it didn't help the situation that we had a shower of snow/sleet for 15 minutes prior to commencement of the game.
We once again opened sluggishly and failed to get into any pattern in the game. The home side started in flying fashion and after a very disappointing performance we found ourselves behind by 3-3 to 0-3, the 3 points coming from Jerome, Brennie and Terry. Five of Newtown's six scores in the first half came from frees.
Things did not improve in the second half and six further scores for Newtown came from frees.
We were well beaten on a final scoreline of 3-13 to 1-6.
Our discipline on the night was most disappointing and matters will have to be improved on.
