First County Title for 2014....
At the Eire Og GAA Club Pavilion in Ovens on Sunday night last we collected our first silverware for the 2014 season. The occasion was the Cork Senior Scor Final for 2013/2014 and we participated in the Leiriu Section. This was a new competition which replaced the original Novelty Act in which we've had a lot o success over the years. The Leiriu puts the emphasis on Irish History, culture and Mythology but can still have a comic content. In the East Cork Final in Lisgoold last month we were the only participants and with no County Semi Finals this year we went straight to the County Final. With a piece based on the Battle of Clontarf in 1014 and outlining the effect that fight had on Clare hurling we took to the stage on Sunday night in Ovens. When the results were announced Bride Rovers were the only East Cork winners. We now go forward to the Munster Semi Final in Cappamore on March 22nd. Our cast was Sean Arnoid, Muiris O Suilleabhain, Orla Ni Arnoid, Seamus Mac Firbhise agus Sean O Braceid. Thanks to our loyal band of supporters who travelled to Ovens on Sunday night last. This was our fifth time winning the Carbery Cup- 2003, 2004, 2005, 2013 and now 2014. Pictured James Bermingham, John Arnold, Jonathan Bracket, Mossie O Sullivan, and Orla Arnold.
SENIOR LEAGUE WIN IN CORK.
On Sunday last our Senior Hurlers travelled to Blackpool to take on Glen Rovers in the Red FM Senior Hurling League. Having received a severe drubbing from Douglas in our opening game a better display was vital. That's what was served up in a relatively low scoring game which we won by double scores 14 points to 7 for Glen Rovers. A good result and there is always something special about playing one of the 'old-firm' City Senior teams like the Glen, the Rockies or the Barrs.
