Club Notes - 2013-12-17 15:13:00

Happy Christmas and a great New Year.
As 2013 comes to an end and we are in the Christmas Season we extend greetings to everyone. On behalf of the Bride Rovers Club, may I, as PRO wish each and every reader a very Happy, Holy and Peaceful Christmas and a joyous New Year of 2014. To all our Club players, members, supporters, sponsors and benefactors and friends at home and abroad we wish each and every one greetings for this special time of year and look forward to a great 2014, on and off the playing fields of East Cork and Cork County. Christmas is a special family time and we wish peace and joy to all families in our parish and beyond. Every year brings its ups and downs and we remember those who are no longer with us at this time in a special way and think of those families who lost loved ones during the year. The role of a GAA club in a community is to promote hurling and football but for Bride Rovers and so many other GAA Clubs it is much more. The Club is the parish, the community, the people, young and old who can identify with those who represent the parish wearing the green white and gold jersies. We are all following in the footsteps of those gone before us who served the Club so well and we are very conscious of this tradition as one season ends and another beckons. Thanks to everyone who helped the Club in any way whatever during 2013 and we look forward to 2014 with renewed confidence. May the peace and joy of  Christmas dwell in each and every heart at this very special time.

As well as the day to day costs we are planning more major Development work in Pairc na Bride in 2014 so finance is always needed.

Carrig again in 2014.
The 2013 Cork GAA Convention was held in Pairc Ui Chaoimh on last Saturday night. Once upon a time  Conventions were dominated by fiery speeches, contentious Motions and hotly contested Elections for Officerships. That was way back then  whereas nowadays things are much different. There was actually no position on the Officer Board contested this year which means that for the third year in a row our Club man Gerard Lane will again serve as Vice Chairman of the Cork County Board. All in Bride Rovers extend our congratulations and best wishes to Gerard for 2014. From a purely club point of view the greatest point of interest at the Convention was the Draw for the 2014 Cork Senior Hurling Championship. It's a case of 'play it again' as for the second year in a row we are pitted against Carrigtwohill. They defeated us in Ballynoe this year but we will still be confident o going in against them in the coming season. The full Senior Hurling  Championship Draw is as follows;

Round 1
A. Na Piarsaigh v Blackrock
B. Newtownshandrum v Youghal
C. Sarsfields v Douglas
D. Bride Rovers v Carrigtwohill
E. Ballymartle v Courcey Rovers
F. St. Finbarr's v Bishopstown
G. Midleton v Erin's Own
H. Killeagh v Glen Rovers

Round 2 (Losers' Group)

B. UCC v Avondhu
C. Carrigdhoun v Duhallow
D. Imokilly v Carbery

Round 2: A v B, C v D

End of Season Get Together.
On this coming Friday night December 20th an end of season get-together id being held in O Coileains at 9pm. All players, members and supporters are welcome to attend this informal gathering. Finger food will be served on the night. December the 20th is a significant date in the Club History for Bride Rovers. There's a line in a song that goes ' for twenty one years is a mighty long time' and Friday is exactly 21 one years since that cold, frosty Sunday in Ballygiblin - December 21 1992, when our Minor Hurlers led by Terry Broderick captured the Cork County Minor League title. On a memorable day we defeated Killavullen on a scoreline of 2  14 to 1  3. How time flies! That win was the starting point for many a great win in subsequent years. This year past has seen marvellous displays from our current Minor side and this certainly augurs well for the future.

St. Stephens Day Fun Run/Walk.
On next Thursday December the 26th - St. Stephens Day the Club is holding a 5K Fun Run or, Walk if you prefer The event is to kick start the 2014 season and also to build up a Training Fund for the Season ahead. We appreciate all the ongoing support the Club gets and in these difficult financial times any sponsorship for this event is very welcome. Meet at the Clubrooms around 11 o clock. The Run or Walk is non competitive so everyone taking part can do it at there own pace.
