We played the first half with the advantage of the elements and went into an early lead with a point from Gavin Quill followed by two goals by Mike Hogan direct from two sideline cuts. These were followed by a point from James Hogan but after this great start Cobh took control at mid-field which put severe pressure on our defence and consequently we conceded 1-3 in the run up to half-time. Before the half-time break we had several opportunities for further scores but did not take them and we led by 2-2 to 1-3, having to face the elements in the second half.

Switches were have in the defence for the second half and we opened brightly but with no additional scores and in a matter of minutes we were behind as we conceded 1-2 and in fact that three point advantage remained to the end. We were totally at sea in the middle section of the field and as a consequence were under pressure for the remainder of the game. In the final 15 minutes we exchanged 4 points with Cobh but we failed to reduce the leeway below 2 points and eventually ran out loosing by 2-9 to 2-6.

The disappointing fact was that this game was there for the taking but lack of composure was a major factor and the result was very disappointing considering the commitment given by many of the players during the season.

Senior Hurling League
We finished our Red FM county Senior Hurling League programme for 2013 with a home game on Saturday against Courcey Rovers. We scored 18 points to Courceys 2 12 for a share of the points. It was disappointing League campaign for us as we finished second last in the League Table. Early on in the year we lost a handful of games by very small margins. These results meant that trying to reach the crucial 'top six' was never going to easy and so it proved in the end. The beneficial side of the League in 2013 was that it introduced many players to the Senior Grade which will be of benefit in the future.
At present the County Board and all Cork GAA Clubs are looking at possible changes in both the Championship and League formats for 2014/2015.

East Cork Junior Hurling Final.
We may be hosting the 2013 East Cork Junior Hurling Final. The situation is that Castlemartyr are in the final with several weeks. The second semi final tales on this coming Sunday when Midleton take on Sarsfields. If Sars win the East Cork Final will take place in Pairc na Bride on Saturday October the 19th. If Midleton win they will meet Castlemartyr in the decider in Youghal. We are on standby then and if Sars win on Sunday it will be a case of 'all systems go' for the coming week as preparations will kick in. 1995 was the last occasion that we hosted the East cork Junior Hurling final. In that final a goal from the late Tomas Fitzgibbon helped Killeagh to a one point - 1 9 to 1 8, win over Watergrasshill.

Jim Sarsfied RIP.
It was truly the end of an era last weekend when news came through of the death of Jim Sarsfield of Skehanagh, Watergrasshill. Jim was involved with the GAA all his life and along with his late brother Fidge served the club in every capacity. Jim was a player, selector, officer, Board delegate, fundraiser, benefactor and life long supporter of the Hill. In the 1970's Jim and Jack Barry were very involved when the Rovers and the Hill were joined at Minor level as St. Bartholomews's. Jim also served the wider community as a member of Cork County Council. He was truly a character with an infectious smile. As a friend he was one of the best, loyal and true. He will be greatly missed by the wider GAA community in Cork. Sincere sympathy to his sister, nephew, nieces, grand nephews and grand nieces and a wide circle of friends. May 'Sars' rest in peace.
