U12 Football....
U12B County Championship Final
Sunday, September 22nd , Carrigtwohill
Bride Rovers 4-4 Aghada 3-7.

Our U12 girls played out a thrilling draw in their county final against Aghada last Sunday evening in a damp and misty Carrigtwohill. It was the girls' third week in a row out in this county competition and the 6pm start made for a nervous and long day for the girls. From the start of the game we took the game to Aghada but could not put the scores on the board. We practically owned the ball for the first 15 minutes but Aghada opened the scoring with a goal against the run of play and followed it up with a point. We replied through Katie Quirke with two fine points before half time to leave the score at 1-01 to 0-02 in favour of Aghada.
We asked the girls to give it their all in the second half and they certainly did that. Everyone battled hard and really put it up to Aghada. They went a further goal up before 2 goals in quick succession from Sarah Murphy had us back in the game and points by Katie Quirke and Fiona Barry had us ahead before Aghada replied with another goal to take the lead again. But we weren`t done yet. Some great play by our girls saw Sarah through for a fabulous goal and from the Aghada kickout, Fiona Barry won possession, passed to Katie Quirke and when her shot rebounded off of the crossbar, who was there to finish it to the net for her fourth goal in 20 minutes? Yes, you guessed it, Sarah Murphy.
The crowd who were present were witnessing a thrilling spectacle and a great advert for ladies football, with great skill and commitment being shown by both sides. You certainly wouldn`t want to have a weak heart such was the pace of the game. We were absorbing huge pressure and our backline were stopping wave after wave of attacks. Ella Quinlan was doing great work in goal and finding her team mates with practically every kick. Unfortunately Aghada scored a last gasp goal to send this game into a replay which will be played on Saturday October 5th. We played well but there is room for improvement in many areas which is a great position to be in going into the replay. Well done girls on a truly magnificent display and good luck in the replay. The panel on the day was:
Ella Quinlan, Rebecca Walsh, Rachael O Flynn, Sorcha Tobin, Sophie Dorgan, Fiona Barry, Shauna Hayes, Sarah Murphy, Aoife Cowman, Caoimhe O Sullivan, Katie Quirke, Anna Murray, Ciara O Flynn, Lucy Hicks, Caoimhe Hazelwood, Bronagh Cleary, Rebecca Hill & Alice Murray.

Junior Football

Saturday, September 21st
County 13-a-side Quarter Final
Bride Rovers 6-12 Mourneabbey 2-7

Our junior football team made light of the loss of some key players during the senior campaign when they had an exhilarating win over visitors Mourneabbey last Saturday. The earlier league encounter between the sides in Mourneabbey was a closer affair but Mourneabbey lost some players during their march to the senior B title also and this may have proved crucial. Our score conversion was excellent from the start and our backs covered the spaces, which a 13-a-side game throws up, to limit Mourneabbey to 2-7 over the hour. It was heartening to see younger players fitting in so well with their experienced team-mates and this bodes well for the rest of this competition even though there will be tough tests ahead. Well done to everyone involved and best of luck in the semi-final.

Panel : Madison Parle, Avelina Crowley, Catherine Power, Laura O'Keeffe, Niamh Murphy, Grainne Noonan, Elaine Culloty (1-2), Karen Sheehan (0-3), Aoife Deasy, Imelda Dorgan (1-2), Grace Culloty (1-2), Sinead O'Driscoll (0-1), Sinead Walsh (3-2), Emma Hazelwood, Emma Barry, Sarah O'Flynn, Meg Kelliher.
