Our Minor hurlers won the Rebel Og East Hurling title on Friday evening last in Cloughduv. We had defeated Grenagh, Kinsale and Cobh in the earlier round while our opponents Tracton had victories over Ballygarvan and Brian Dillons. We suffered a major blow in the run up to the final when William Finnegan sustained a serious injury while playing with the Cork u17 team. It meant for the final Jack Connor was on the team from the start. In Cloughduv on Friday evening there was a very strong breeze blowing down the field and Tracton had the advantage in the first half. Despite playing against the elements we settled in well and points from Dean Linehan opened our account. Tracton did lead for periods but we soon began to dominate and sent plenty ball into the forwards. It was a tricky wind and our shooting was a bit off - we hit ten wides in the first half but still led by 8 points to 7 at half time. Dean Linehans accuracy from frees was vital as it meant that Tracton never got too far ahead. With the breeze in the second half we took over . Four points in a row from Dean, DJ Cahill, Sean Cotter and Shane Walsh gave us a good lead. Tracton hit back with two to leave us 12/9 ahead with fifteen minutes gone. Padraig Noonan, Ryan Prendergast and Dean were involved in a great move which ended with DJ Cahill scoring a great goal. This put us well ahead and with increasing confidence the team opened up and finished strongly. In the last ten minutes we added five points to win by 1 18 to 0 12. It was a great team effort from Shane in goals, Padraig, Tadhg, Jack, Shane and Ryan in defence. Cian O Connor was powerful in midfield. Sean, team Captain Jamie,Dean Colm and DJ all played their parts in a great win.

Play it again Liam.
At Croke park on Sunday Cork and Clare played out a classic draw in the All Ireland Hurling Final. Some say Cork played badly and that Clare will never play so well again but one way or another history will be made on September the 28th when the replay takes place on a Saturday. With a 5 o clock start for the replay the lights will probably be on in Croke Park Getting back to last Sunday it was a mighty game with Clare looking like winners for most of the game. Then at the very end it looked as if Liam McCarthy was Leeside bound only for a last second equaliser. In hindsight a draw was probably a fair result. It's all of 82 years since Cork were last involved in a drawn All Ireland Final. That 1931 Final actually went to a second replay on November 1st of that year when Cork eventually bet Kilkenny by 5 8 to 3 4. So for the next few weeks it will be all about tickets again Well done to Dan Quill our Treasurer for his tremendous work over the weeks before the Final in securing and distributing tickets. Well done to Brian Murphy and his colleagues who displayed brilliant spirit and courage on Sunday last when all seemed lost.
The red and white flags can remain flying proudly and sure looking forward to the replay will shorten the winter for everyone!
Congrats of course to the great Waterford Minor team who won the All Ireland against Galway on Sunday. It was the Decies first title in this grade since 1948 and just third in total. Well done lads.
