Wins for Senior Minor and Juniors....

It was a busy week with hurling league games for our Junior C and Senior teams and Championship action for our Minor Hurlers. All three teams had good wins, one away and two at home. On last Wed night the Junior C team travelled to Pairc Ui Chinneide in Killeagh for a league tie against the home team and had a good win. The Minor Hurling championship first round game against Grenagh was fixed for the Mon Field on Thursday night. This fixture had to be postponed due to the death of Mrs. Nan Hourihane of Bandon, grandmother of Shane and Cian O Connor, sincere sympathy is extended to Rosamund, Oliver and all the relations. The Minor game was refixed for Sunday. When the Mon field was unavailable a toss was agreed upon and the game went ahead at Pairc na Bride at 12. 30 on Sunday August 4th. The previous evening Newtownshandrum were visitors to Rathcormac for RED FM Senior Hurling game.

East Cork Div.3 JHL V Killeagh.

For the third time this season we travelled to Killeagh to play League Hurling, some six weeks ago our Junior A Team had a very comprehensive win and this was followed a month later with an excellent win at Senior Level.

On this visit we had a reduced panel of players due to injuries and holidays so it was going to be a tall order to register a Hurling League Treble.

We commenced the game with the wind advantage and within minutes we had two points courtesy Gavin Quill and Darren Moore but then we conceded a sloppy goal. We followed this with three further points from Gavin but again we conceded another goal. Points from James and Niall Hogan and Daniel Lane had us ahead by 0-8 to 2-0 at the break but having to face the elements in the second half. We opened with points from Niall and Gavin but with conditions deteriorating we found ourselves under extreme pressure and conceded three points in a row, all from frees. Following some switches Enda Collins scored our first goal and this was followed by a further goal from Sean O Brien. We conceded a third goal from a 21yard free which went in off the crossbar. We recovered quickly and had further points from Damien Buckley and Gavin and the Treble was achieved on a scoreline of 2-14 to 3-3.

Co. MINOR HURLING CHAMPIONSHIP V GRENAGH.

 The Mid Cork side travelled to Rathcormac on Sunday for this first round game. Both teams were in different section of the County Minor Hurling League so there was no 'form; to go on to indicate the likely winners here.

From the outset it was very obvious that we were well in control of the contest. With our defence well marshalled giving great cover to Shane and our midfield and half forward completely on top our forward division made good use of the scoring opportunities. We won very easily on a final scoreline of 6 20 to 1 12.

RED FM SENIOR HURLING LEAGUE.

There was a six o clock throw in for the game against Newtownshandrum in Rathcormac on Saturday evening. It was a high scoring game with both sides notching eighteen points. The decisive score were a brace of goals, one each from Brenny O Driscoll and Owen Murphy which helped us to a 2 18 to 0 18 win. Our Senior Championship game v Midleton goes ahead on Sunday week August 18th in P. Ui Chaoimh at 2.30.

 End of an Era for Cork Football?

Cork lost out to Dublin last Saturday night in the Football quarter final and the defeat brought an end to Conor Counihan's reign as manager. In his term in charge the Aghada man brought great success to Cork football. The 2010 All Ireland win was the highlight -should this Cork team have won more than a single All Ireland? Maybe, but in recent years Galway, Meath, Down, Armagh, Kildare and Mayo would have gladly settled for even one Sam Maguire win. Conor Counihan made no enemies and many friends and admirers in his time in charge. Well done Conor.

 Cork v Dublin again.

The Dubs are cock a hoop after last weekend as they set their sights firmly on two wins over Cork sides at senior level. On Sunday next Cork and Dublin meet in Croke Park in championship hurling for the first time since the 1952 All Ireland Final- which Cork won handily. Dublin are Leinster Champions having beaten Wexford, Kilkenny and Galway en route to the Provincial title. They will have no fear of Cork but the same can be said of JBM's side. We hope that Brian Murphy may be included in the panel but one way or another let's hope for a great display from Cork as they try and make it to the All Ireland Hurling Final for the first time since 2006. Safe travelling to all those travelling to Croke park and best of luck to Cork.
