Senior Football...
The Rovers girls played their first round of the Senior A championship on Sunday last versus Rosscarbery in a home venue for the west Cork side. The game was closely contested in the opening stages and were it not for a few errors on the Rovers side the score could be much closer at half time. The west cork side led 3.3 to 1.5 at the short whistle with their goals coming against the run of play. The Rovers girls started the second half brightly and worked hard to narrow the margin but unfortunately it was to be the other green, white and gold team that pushed on for the last quarter. The game finished in double scores with Rosscarbery having a comfortable win of 4.16 to 2.6. The score however doesn't do justice to the Rovers girls who fought valiantly throughout and were it not for some top drawer saves from the ever reliable Caitriona Vaughan this contest could have been over much sooner. Caitriona's backline worked tirelessly to minimise the damage of the in-form Ross forwards. The pairings at midfield emptied the tanks as they tracked up and down the field. The forwards found it difficult to penetrate the diligent Ross defence and a return of 2.2 from play was evident of this monumental task. Katie Kelleher finished the game as top scorer scoring two fine goals from play and was involved in the other scores and frees won.
While this was a disappointing opener to the Senior Championship all is not lost and the Rovers girls are sure to come out fighting in their round 2 fixture against old rivals Eire Og. This game is fixed for Thursday August 1st at 8pm in Rathcormac pitch. All support is welcome by team and management as they aim to get a win under their belt.Pictured are a happy group at the Summer camp (for more see Photos section ladies gallery)
Junior Football
The opening Junior county championship fixture against Fermoy B has been postponed due to players' unavailability on holidays etc.
Minor Football
Monday, July 29, Buck Leary's Cross
Glanmire 3-6 Bride Rovers 4-9
Bride Rovers minors had their second successive win when they overcame Glanmire by 6 points in a fine encounter at Buck Leary's cross. Despite missing a large number of our more experienced players on holidays etc, we showed that we have some depth to this panel which is essential during the summer and especially when taking on the top sides. Madison Parle made some fine saves in both halves, which were instrumental in us winning the game in the end. Our backs and mid-field worked tirelessly, especially considering most of them had already left everything on the pitch in Rosscarbery just 24 hours earlier in the senior championship tie there. We are very grateful for the effort that was put in, in the circumstances. Upfront, our forwards put up a decent score, none more so than Aoife Deasy who finished the game with a fine personal tally of 3-1.
Match Panel : Madison Parle, Erin O'Keeffe, Mary Hazelwood, Katie Connor, Laura Quirke, Karen Sheehan, Jen Cahill (0-2), Trish O'Sullivan (1-2), Emma Roche (0-1), Grace Culloty (0-1), Laura Pratt, Elaine Culloty (0-2), Aoife Deasy (3-1), Emma Barry, Grainne Noonan, Sarah O Flynn, Shauna O'Connell, Maria O'Sullivan, Andrea Quinn O'Donovan, Kate Quirke.

U16 Football
Saturday, July 27th Rathcormac
Bride Rovers 2-11 Youghal 1-3
Youghal have made huge strides since they commenced as a ladies football club three years ago and they provided a stern test to our U16s last Saturday. Indeed, with a bit of luck in front of the posts, the scoreline in this friendly match would have been much closer.
Bride Rovers Scorers : Elaine Culloty 0-6, Aoife Deasy 1-2, Grace Culloty 0-1, Michelle Lane 1-0, Kate Quirke 0-2.
Junior Camogie
Our Junior camogie team came up just short against a talented Youghal side in Pairc na Bride last Thursday night. We enjoyed the better of the second half but just failed to close the gap.
The next round of the championship is scheduled for mid-August.
Thanks to everyone who helped out in any way during the summer camp last week and we hope everyone who participated enjoyed themselves. The weather was not as hot as in previous weeks which was probably not so bad in hindsight.
