S H V Ballinhassig Today. - 2013-06-25 06:53:00

On this Sunday we face Ballinhassig in Round 2 of the S H C at Pairc Ui Chaoimh at 2.30. We lost our first round game against Carrigtwohill on June 2nd by a margin of three points. The previous night Ballinhassig went down to Sarsfields, the County Champions by two points. In 2011 Ballinhassig were relegated from Senior to Premier Intermediate but they won out the PIHC in convincing style last year to regain their Senior status. They played brilliantly against Sars and were only defeated by a brace of late points. They are a serious Senior team and will be all out to gain revenge for the last time we met. That was in 2008 in Riverstown. We were lucky to get a draw the first day. In the replay we won by 0 10 to 0 9.

Our game against Carrig was the typical 'game of two halves' - in the first thirty minutes we just weren't at the races at all and left Carrig build up a huge lead. On the night Carrig got points from every angle while we struggled to come to grips with the pace of the game. We played a different kind of hurling in the second half, displaying great determination. We got the margin down to points for an instant but Carrig again finished stronger. Make no mistake about it if we give Ballinhassig the same leeway they will punish us on the scoreboard as they are renowned for their point scoring ability. We still have to hurl from the start on Sunday as it's very hard to overhaul a team once they get into their stride. We have struggled all year in getting decent scores. The lowest score by a winning team in the first round of this years Cork Senior Championship was 2 13, we need to be able to clock up a tally like that and even at that we will find it very hard to beat Ballinhassig. This will be a tough contest to win but we are capable of doing it. Go for it lads. The game is part of a double header with the Erins Own v Ballymartle game at 4 o lock.
