Junior Hurlers in Championship Action.
On this Thursday June the 20th our Junior A Grade Hurling team are in East Cork Championship action. We take on Dungourney in a first round game in Ballynoe at 7.30pm. This is a huge challenge for our second team as our opponents are the kingpins of Junior Hurling in the Imokilly Division with a few years now. Indeed they do not hide their stated ambition to add a County Title to the Divisional honours they have captured in modern times. Our team has competed very well in the Cavanaghs of Fermoy Avondhu/Imokilly JHL Division 1 campaign. However with several of the team now promoted to the Senior side and a few injuries as well we will find it very hard to overcome Dungourney. It's just fifteen years since we won the East Cork JHC title after an absence of 29 seasons, defeating Dungourney in the final at Pairc UÃ Chonaill in Cobh. Much has changed in East Cork hurling since and it is still good to be competing at Junior A Grade level with our second team. The odds are stacked against us but we have nothing to lose so go for it lads and the very best of luck.
Senior Hurling.
The Second round of the Cork Senior Hurling championship is just a little over a week away. On Sunday week at HQ we face South East side Ballinhassig at 2.30 in a crunch game. In preparation for the championship clash the hurlers travelled to picturesque Ballymacarbery in Waterford's Nire Valley on last Saturday evening. They had a good game against Tullaroan of Kilkenny, the club of Tommy Walsh who obviously wasn't playing, as the Cats get ready to face the Dubs in the Leinster Semi Final this coming weekend.
Upcoming fixtures in the Cavanaghs of Fermoy Avondhu/Imokilly Junior Hurling League are as follows;
Tuesday June 25th V Kilshannig at home, 7.30pm
Tuesday July 2nd V Killeagh, away- changed from July 1st.
Saturday July 6th V Cobh, at home -provisional.

CORK V CLARE.
Cork senior hurlers enter the 2013 Championship arena on Sunday, the last team in contention for the Liam McCarthy Cup to do so. Let's hope it will be a long campaign for the men in red and white. On Sunday they face Clare in what will be a third meeting of the Banner and the Rebel Counties this year. In the Division 1 NHL game and the Relegation battle the Clare side have had two impressive victories over Jimmy Barry Murphy's side. Those defeats will be forgotten quickly if Cork manage to win on Sunday but it wont be easy. Davy Fitz has built a new team based on the two u21 All Ireland winning teams of recent years and they looked good in finishing very strongly against Waterford in the quarterfinal. Cork will have no fear of Clare however and a great game should be witnessed. Best of luck to Brian Murphy and all his team mates and let's look forward to a great day in the Gaelic Grounds in Limerick.
FARNA 1963.
On tomorrow Friday June 21st the Farranferris College Hurling team of 1963 will gather in the Blackrock GAA Pavilion in Cork. They come together to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of their Golden Season of 1963 when they captured Munster and All Ireland glory in the Senior Colleges Competition. Our own Fr. Seanie Barry was one of the stars of the team and he has travelled from Africa to be with his teammates for this special occasion. We hope they have a great day reliving the events of that momentous year. Fr. Seanie returns to Africa next week and we wish him bon voyage and a safe trip back to the Mission Fields.
Fr. LIAM RYAN.
Great sadness was felt in the parish on Monday last when the news came through of the death of Fr. Liam Ryan. Liam was a native of Mondaniel and spent over 50 years in priestly ministry in the Dioceses of Cloyne. On his retirement a few years back he returned to live in his old house in Mondaniel and was very integrated in the religious and sporting life of the parish. He played with Bride Rovers in his younger days and remained a life long proud follower of the club. Sympathy is extended to the Ryan family on their loss. Sympathy also is extended to the Barry family Knocknaboola on the death of Margaret's father Paddy Mackey of Youghal.
