County Junior B Football Championship....
Araglen 2-7 Bride Rovers 0-10
Our Junior B Footballers were defeated by Araglen in Kilworth this Wednesday evening, where the sun shone brightly on a perfect evening for a game. In the first half, despite playing with a slight breeze, we fell behind early on by 0-3 to 0-1 , but we gradually came more into the game, and some great scores from Brendan Walsh and Terry Broderick combined with very good play throughout the field, saw us take a firm grip and we were full value for our 0-8 to 0-4 half time lead.
Araglen started the second half in whirlwind fashion, winning every fifty- fifty ball and taking the game to the Rovers. They scored 2-1 in a six-minute spell between the 35th and 41st minutes to lead 2-5 to 0-8, and we were now struggling to stay with our opponents, coughing up easy ball and displaying very poor passing. Gradually we came to grips with Araglen again, and while we won plenty ball, the final pass moving forward let us down. Despise Bride Rovers dominating the game at this stage, 13 minutes passed without a score from either side. In this period there were some heavy tackles in particular one on Michael Kearney. Araglen were reduced to 14 players later in the game, but we could not break down their resolute defence and managed to trouble the scoreboard operator just twice during the second half, with two points from Gavin Flynn (before he was second yellow carded in the 57th minute) and Brendan Walsh. Though even our goalkeeper Jerome O Driscoll joined the attack, it was not enough to save the day and Araglen finished off with two more points to seal the win and move into the Round 4 draw, while we must now concentrate our efforts on the East Cork B Football Championship later in the year. Well done to James Ahern and Seamus Buckley who took on the task and we hope that the team will give a good account of themselves in the East Cork Championship.
