U14 Football....

Saturday, April 13, East Cork League.
Bride Rovers 9-3 Watergrasshill 6-9

Our U14s got a first league win on the board in a tight encounter against Watergrasshill last Saturday. We got off to a slow start and conceded 1-3 in the early moments of the match but we recovered to lead by 5 points at half-time. However, defeat was on the cards in the closing stages when Watergrasshill got a number of goals to edge in front. The Rovers girls showed good spirit though, took the game to the opposition again and were rewarded when late goals from Grace Culloty and Sarah Murphy gave us a 3 point win. The game was also notable for the scoring exploits of U12 player Katy Quirke who finished with a tally of 5-3.

Scorers : Katy Quirke 5-3, Grace Culloty 3-0, Sarah Murphy 1-0.

Panel : Anna Murray, Rachel O Flynn, Emma Barry, Emily Larkin, Fiona Barry, Michelle Lane, Emma Hazelwood, Siobhan O Sullivan, Arianne O Flynn, Sarah Murphy, Grace Culloty, Aislinn O'Connor, Evelyn O'Keeffe, Sarah Geaney, Kate Quirke , Caoimhe Hazelwood, Lucy Hicks.

U16 Camogie

Wednesday, April 12th, Rathcormac
Bride Rovers 3-4 Castlelyons 1-2.

The club's first camogie match of 2013 was played last Friday night, April 12 when we had an 8 point win over near neighbours Castlelyons. The visitors led for much of the match but a scoring burst midway through the second half gave us a win we deserved based on our possession levels throughout.

Scorers : Meg Kelliher 1-1, Laura Quirke 1-1, Nicola Murphy 1-0, Shauna O'Connell 1-0, Emma Barry 0-2.

Next U16 Camogie Fixture away to Dungourney, 11:30am on Sunday, April 21.

U16 Football

Tuesday, April 9. East Cork League.
Bride Rovers 1-15 Erins Own 2-4

Bride Rovers chalked up their fourth successive win in the East Cork league last Tuesday in Pairc na Bride. While our number of scores was perfectly respectable, it is also the case that we unfortunately did not make the best use of many other chances that came our way in this match. Nevertheless, we now look forward to the final league group games against Mayfield and Glanmire.

Panel : Madison Parle, Sarah O Flynn, Niamh Murphy, Margaret Kearney, Aoife O Riordan, Aine Cashman, Grainne Noonan, Laura Quirke (0-1), Karen Sheehan, Michelle Lane (1-1) , Emma Roche (0-3), Meg Kelliher, Elaine Culloty (0-5), Aoife Deasy (0-5), Laura Pratt, Alice O'Keeffe, Shauna O'Connell, Maria O'Sullivan, Emma Hazelwood, Jessica Howard.

U16 Football

Saturday, April 6. East Cork League.
Midleton 3-5 Bride Rovers 0-15

Anyone who travelled to Ballinacurra last Saturday afternoon were certainly served up with a contest to make the journey worthwhile. Bride Rovers dominated the scoreline, though not necessarily general play, in the first half leading by 11 points to 2 at half-time. Ominously though, we did not raise a green flag or two, several shots whistling over the crossbar rather than under! Our forwards excelled in that opening half, as the mid-field/centreback diamond of Grace Culloty, Karen Sheehan and Laura Quirke drove forward at every opportunity to create the chances. We continued to make chances in the second half but found scoring much harder as the wind perhaps had a greater impact than we would have thought. Midleton launched a sustained fightback and got goals, including one from a penalty, which eventually brought them level on the stroke of fulltime. Madison made some great saves also during this period and the eventual winning of the game was definitely down to her and all the 6 backs (Niamh, Laura, Sarah, Margaret, Aoife and Grainne) who dealt with the pressure admirably. Finally, there are many leaders on the U16 panel but none more so than Laura Quirke who took the game by the scruff of the neck in the closing seconds. Not satisfied with a draw, she powered forward from centre-back and ended up at the end of a move to kick what transpired to be the winning point. Well done to all concerned as this win now puts us in a good position in the group.

Panel : Madison Parle, Sarah O Flynn, Niamh Murphy, Margaret Kearney, Aoife O Riordan, Laura Quirke (0-1), Grainne Noonan, Grace Culloty (0-1), Karen Sheehan (0-1), Jessica Howard, Emma Roche (0-5), Meg Kelliher (0-2), Elaine Culloty (0-2), Aoife Deasy (0-3), Laura Pratt, Michelle Lane, Shauna O'Connell, Maria O'Sullivan, Emma Hazelwood, Emma Barry, Aisling Finnegan.

U12 Football

Our U12s' winning run came to an end when they were defeated at Buck Leary's Cross by Glanmire on Monday, April 8. Let's hope for better luck in the next fixture against Mayfield which has been refixed for Saturday, April 20 at 12 noon in Mayfield.

Our U12 girls played Glanmire on Monday 8th of April last week in what can only be described as horrific conditions. Gale force winds and sleet made conditions almost impossible. We played with the wind in the first half but found it very difficult to get scores. By half time we were ahead by two point but we knew Glanmire would come at us in the second half. We were under pressure from the start but Glanmire found Ella in great form in goal. Our six backs worked very hard to keep out the Glanmire attacks but with a strengthening wind, Glanmire began to get on top. Our midfield and forwards did get through against the wind but found the Glanmire defence in top form. We eventually lost this game by 2 goals but the girls put in a fabulous performance in horrible conditions. Well done girls. Our next game is on next Saturday morning against Mayfield at 12 o clock in Mayfield.

Senior and U12 Football

Sunday's senior football fixture against Beara and U12 game at Mayfield were both called off because of the high winds.

Primary Games

Siobhan O'Sullivan continues the fine tradition of Bride Rovers players who have lined out for Cork in the primary games as she has been selected for the 2013 camogie team. Siobhan, who plays for our U14 football and camogie teams, has made a big effort to improve her skills at both games, including completing the excellent Cork ladies football development programme during the winter along with Emma Barry and Aislinn O'Connor. This honour is therefore very much deserved.
