Cavanaghs of Fermoy Avondhu/Imokilly JHL:
We travelled to Shanballymore for Round 3 with a depleted team on Sunday last. We had a panel of 17 players on the day. A further 14 players who are eligible to play were missing on the day for one reason or another. We opened the game with the wind advantage and from the throw-in we attackd and registered our first point from play by Jerome. Following a few good scores by Shanballymore our next attack yielded a goal by Terry. We were under pressure all over the field as Shanballymore registered some excellent points from play and frees. By half-time we trailed by 0-8 to 1-3.
Disaster struck from the restart and an attack up the left wing by Shanballymore was completed by an excellent goal. From here on we were under extreme pressure and during the second half we registered 4 points to their 7. We had some good attacks but were unlucky not to score 3 goals in one 10 minute period, in each case the final shot drifted inches wide, we were also lucky that Frank was in such excellent form between the posts
The final score was a defeat by 1-15 to 1-7.
Overall the display was very disappointing. If we are to hold our place in Division 1 of this League we need to get our act together and all players should ensure that they attend the twice weekly training sessions with the Seniors, training this week is on Tuesday and Thursday. Also players should ensure to contact the team management if not available rather than ignoring the situation and failing to turn up for either training or matches.
At present we have no further league games fixed but training will continue and all players should attend, if you are interested in wearing the club colours in the future. Panel: Frank Hogan, Tadgh O'Sullivan, Brian Collins, Barry Collins, Ryan O'Connor, Pat Walsh, Sean O'Brien, James Murphy, Gavin O'Flynn, Garry Clerkin, Brendan O'Driscoll, Terry Broderick, Jerome O'Driscoll, Stephen Hackett, Richie Cahill. Enda Collins, Damien Buckley.
