Munster Semi Final on Saturday....
Someone asked me 'What are ye're chances of making the Munster Final?' "50/50" says I and so it is on this Saturday evening in the Mallow Youth Centre when we take on the best of Waterford, Kerry and Clare in the provincial Scor Semi Final of the Nuachleas(Novelty Act). With two to go forward to the Munster Final it with will be tough going. The competition starts at 6pm but Bride Rovers won't be on stage until the second half, around 8pm.

Cavanaghs of Fermoy Avondhu/Imokilly JHL Div 1.

Our visitors to Pairc Na Bhride on St. Patrick's Morning for Round 2 of the League were Newtownshandrum.
We conceded a few early points and then when we played the direct long ball into the forwards we got positive results and Stephen and Alan both rattled the net following some good interchanges in play. With half-time approaching Stephen scored direct from a sideline cut some 35 yards out on the right. After a sluggish first half we were behind at half-time by 1-9 to 3-2.
Some changes and switches were made at half-time which improved the position and we saw a more determined Rovers side who, showing the true Rovers Spirit and despite going 4 points behind, fought hard. A great cross from the left corner flag was drilled to the net by James Murphy after he came come through from centre field.
Newtown were eventually the victors on a score of 2-14 to 4-7, our second one-point defeat in the League. Hopefully the spirit and determination shown in the second half will continue in the upcoming league fixtures. These are great junior games to get so regularly early in the year.

SENIOR HURLING LEAGUE.

Our opening game in the 2013 County SHL was away to Douglas on Saturday afternoon last. We were defeated on a 2 15 to 1 5 scoreline. It was a comprehensive defeat and while a very s disappointing start to the competition we are trying to compete at the Senior level with several players new to this grade. It will be a learning experience but the most important thing is to have a settled team for June 2nd when we meet the 2011 County Champions in the first round of the championship in Ballynoe. Team and scorers v Douglas;

Our next game in the RED FM SHL is v Glen Rovers on the weekend of March 30/31.

CLUB FINALS.

Despite the terrible weather conditions in Croke Park last Sunday the All Ireland Club Finals provided great entertainment. With four Clubs new to the scene and the two hurling finalists having won their first ever County Title last Autumn it was an emotional occasion for all involved. I've attended many Club Finals on St Patricks Day but for sheer passion and determination last Sunday was one of the best ever. I felt sorry for Kilcormac- Killoughey, they lost their 'main man' Daniel Currams in an ill-timed practise game just seven days before the Final and then finished with 13 players. St. Thomas' are worthy champions though, with the Burke led side finishing strongly.

When the 'dust had settled' in Croke Park last Sunday and the crowds were gone I met Shane 'Cake' Curran the goalie on the winning St. Bridgets football team. At 42 years of age he had reason to be beaming. Shane was playing adult football years before some of his team maters were even born! A great character he spoke of his pride in 'the little parish' of Kiltoom in Roscommon. Yes indeed, the West is truly Awake after last Sunday.
