Cavanaghs of Fermoy, Imokilly/Avondhu JHL Div 1.Castlemartyr were the visitors to Pairc Na Bhride for the First Round Game of the 2013 Inter Divisional League. . In what was a miserably wet and cold day both teams took the field in deplorable conditions and it was a credit to both sides that they served up some good hurling in such conditions. We played with the advantage of the wind in the first half but went behind to some early points from play by Castlemartyr. We then got into the game and rattled over three points on the trot and with a bit of luck could have taken the lead as a shot at goal flew over the bar and we also hit the upright twice, from play and from a free. We were in arrears by four points at half-time with the score at 0-8 to 0-4. On the resumption scores were hard to come by for both teams and by the 15th minute we found ourselves seven points down. With the defence playing well and with some changes Stephen Hackett manufactured a very good goal and he followed by a similar score soon afterwards to bring us back on level terms . Castlemartyr went two points up . We fought valiantly to level the game and a further point from long rang by Cian O Connor left the minimum between the teams. The final score saw us losing by 2-6 to 0-13.

U21s FOOTBALLERS WELL BEATEN.
AT Castlelyons on Saturday afternoon last we faced the Lisgoold/Castlemartyr combination team Castlegoold in the Quarter final of the East Cork u21 BFC. In reality this was a non-contest as the pick of two clubs is rarely going to be beaten by a single club side. That's the way it transpired on the day. Though our lads tried valiantly we were well beaten on a scoreline of 2 15 to 0 2. Even allowing for the strength of the opposition we were missing too many players eligible to play in this grade - the average age of the team was just 18. Just three of the team were on the age of 21. Defeats like this are of no benefit but hopefully our panel of players will stay together and aim at next years competition.
