U14 Ladies Football

Friendly Match, Sunday, March 3rd.
Bride Rovers 3-4 Douglas 3-4.

Our U14s girls played their first match of 2013 in Rathcormac last Sunday when we played Douglas in a very enjoyable friendly match. Inch Rovers were unable to travel for our scheduled league match so we were very grateful to Douglas for agreeing to travel to us instead and that we were able to get down to business on the pitch. The game itself was very satisfactory from a Rovers perspective. Douglas have been very strong at U14 level in the county in recent times and we were expecting a very tough opening match but we acquitted ourselves very well, defended well when we had to and notched some great scores also. Special mention must go to Emily Larkin who gave an exhibition of full-back play and to youngsters Caoimhe Hazelwood, Rachel O'Flynn, Fiona Barry, Lucy Hicks and goal-scorer Anna Murray who showed courage and experience beyond their years. The game was also notable for the debut in Rovers colours of Evelyn O'Keeffe who showed great commitment throughout in a very promising start. Evelyn and her sister Alice (U16) joined the ladies football group recently and it's fantastic to see some new faces joining.
We have a very young U14 team this year, Only 3 or 4 girls on the panel will be actually 14 at some stage of 2013 and we depend on many U12 players, but all of the younger girls who line out are certainly able to play having been very good performers at the younger age groups over the years.
All things considered, we can have cause for optimism at U14 level this year. Thanks again to Douglas for travelling to us and we hope to return the favour later in the year.

Match panel : Sarah Murphy, Rachel O'Flynn, Emily Larkin, Aisling Finnegan, Michelle Lane, Emma Hazelwood, Fiona Barry, Grace Culloty, Siobhan O'Sullivan, Lucy Hicks, Emma Barry, Evelyn O'Keeffe, Caoimhe Hazelwood, Anna Murray, Arianne O'Flynn.
