PRO Report - 2013-02-12 16:51:00

Playing season underway.

We're still in February and most playing fields are still closed due to the bad weather but the flag has gone up and the 2013 season is up and running. With juvenile, ladies, junior and minor football games coming up this weekend it will be a busy time. Our Junior Hurlers got their season off to a start with a challenge game against Ballygiblin on Saturday last so as the evenings get brighter it will be hectic before long.

This quiz is the only event organised by Cumann Lúth-Chleas Gael that is held completely as Gaeilge, and all clubs are asked to support it. Winning teams will progress to represent Cork in the Munster Final and hopefully National level.

Seamus Coughlan RIP

It was with sadness that all in Cork GAA circles heard the news at the weekend of the death of Seamus Couglan. Seamus was an outstanding Nemo and Cork Footballer winning an All Ireland medal in 1973. After his army career he spent many years as the man behind the Cork GAA Club members draw. Sincere sympathy to his family and friends.

Jimmy Smyth RIP.

Jimmy Smyth the greatest Clare hurler never to have won an All Ireland medal died at his home in Clontarf, Dublin at the weekend. He played for Clare for 19 years and was a brilliant member of the Munster hurling team, winning six Railway Cup medals with the province. He worked for years as a staff member of the GAA at Croke Park. He had an abiding love of Ballads, especially GAA Ballads. After producing books of GAA Ballads for his native County and Tipperary he turned his attention to Cork. In 2001 along with Brendan Barry, Jim Cronin and this writer the Book of Cork GAA Ballads was published. Jimmy was a true Gael and loved being in the company of GAA people. He was a native of Ruan. May he rest in peace.

Club Website.

The Bride Rovers GAA Club website www.briderovers.ie is proving popular at home and abroad. If you have any ideas for improving the website or suggestions for additions please contact us. Recently over 100 extra photographs have been added in the Gallery Section as well as extra match reports. If you have any old Club photos we would love to put them up on the website so please contact any Club Officer. We have very few photographs from the 1940's and 1950's and would seek any GAA related pictures taken in the parish during this period. Even photos of groups or individuals at carnivals, tournaments or East Cork games would be very welcome. Also please remind family members scattered all over the world to log in and keep in touch.
