At a superb turned out grounds in Delaneys last Saturday our Under 11 boys took to the field in the Rebel Og East league final to play Ballygarvan. The boys were cheered on by a big support .The game started in lovely sunshine but we found ourselves behind to a goal and then a point in the first few minutes. We soon settled down and pointed frees from Craig and Patrick got the boys settled. Cian was now hurling with great confidence and Adam was powerful in the half backline. Kieran sent a long ball into the forwards and after a tussle the ball was finished to the net by Craig, now the boys were playing well a great point from Shaun and a great run from Patrick who finished to the net had us in control. Great saves from the Ballygarvan keeper denied shots from Kieran Edmund and Ruairi keeping bally in the game half time 2-4 to 1-2.
Second half started with Patrick pulling on the clash ball then Shaun ran onto it and put it over the bar. Kieran was superb in midfield and got his rewards with a good point Adam and Ciaran were giving nothing away in the backs another point from Patrick had us well in control. Then Ballygarvan got a goal and point we were still leading 3-7 to 2-3. The ref awarded a penalty to our opponents which was blocked superbly by Cian with Adam clearing down the field to Craig who turned and put it over the bar. Seamus collected a ball in midfield and ran straight at goal and struck a great goal it seemed like game over. But a few strange decisions by the ref giving another two penalties which were converted it was backs to the wall time. The backs stood up and fought for every ball. Cian Adam Oisin and Ciaran were brilliant while Kieran and Patrick were working hard not to let the opposition through. When they did Michael was in great form in goal although they got one more goal before the final whistle went. Great scenes of joy followed. Captain Patrick received the trophy.
