Juniors Hurlers Defeated

On Sunday night last our Junior hurlers bowed out of the East Cork Oil sponsored Junior A hurling championship after being defeated by Castlemartyr in Ballynoe.
We opened brightly and had 2 points from Terry and this was followed by a pointed free by Castlemartyr. This was followed by a goal conceded due to a mix up in defence which allowed Barry Lawton in for a goal scored from inside the square. We got back into the game with points by Terry and Richie but following 3 conceded points from frees disaster struck when a high ball into our square came back off the upright and a further goal was scrambled to the net by Castlemartyr. The half-time score saw us behind by 2 goals on a score of 2-5 to 0-5.
In the early exchanges of the 2nd half both teams exchanged points but we failed to get the difference below 5 points. With 15 minutes to go Castlemartyr look control and scored some excellent long range points which we had no answer to due to lack of fitness. Castlemartyr ran out worthy winners on a scoreline of 2-17 to 0-10.

Scorers: Terry Broderick 0-8, Richie Cahill 0-2.
Team: Frank Hogan, Fergus Collins, Tomas Kearney, Kieran Manley, Trevor Moloney, Brendan O'Driscoll, Jim O'Connor, Pat Walsh, Terry Broderick, Sean O'Brien, Kieran Collins, Alan O'Keeffe, Damien Buckley, Richard Cahill(Captain), Owen Murphy.
Sub Used: Gerard Healy for Damien Buckley.

For our 2nd team to compete at this level in the Championship, against first teams we have to commence hard training earlier on the year and have total commitment from the full panel of players and with that we will be in a position to compete with the best in the division.

J.H.L.Division 3 V Midleton
We travelled to complete this fixture in the past week with a panel of 18 players but the same applies to these players that they need to commit to training rather than just turning up for games, too many of the players are not seen from match to match and at this level you need to train on a regular basis.
From the outset we were in severe difficulty and within minutes had conceded 5 points without return. Kieran Wolfe was unlucky not to score a goal in our first attack and by half-time we were behind on a score of 2-10 to 0-0. We opened brightly in the 2nd half and within 7 minutes Gavin had scored 2 goals and following this we were unlucky with a penalty which was cleared at the butt of the post. We ran out of steam and eventually were defeated.
Team: Mce Dooley, Wm O'Leary, Brian Collins, Richard Foley, Barry Collins, Michael Hogan, Brian Lahive, Damien Buckley, Stephen O'Leary, Niall Hogan, Gavin Quill, Daniel Lane, Kieran Wolfe, Gerard Healy, James Bermingham.
Subs Used: Liam O'Leary, Jamie Buckley, Cian Howard.
